Campgrounds near Pendergrass, Georgia
Pendergrass sits in Jackson County along Interstate 85, roughly halfway between Atlanta and the South Carolina line, and within a short drive of Athens, Gainesville, and Lake Lanier. The location puts RV travelers within reach of two Georgia state parks, a KOA franchise, and independent RV parks and equestrian properties. Terrain is rolling Piedmont with hardwood forest, small lakes, and reservoirs rather than mountains, so most sites are level and accessible year-round.
Fort Yargo State Park is a scenic destination in Winder, Georgia, that features a 260-acre lake, over 20 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking, and a 1792 log fort built by settlers for protection against the Cherokee and Creek Nations. To the north, Don Carter State Park is effectively the first state park on Lake Lanier, a 38,000-acre water source providing water activities for the whole family.
Other nearby options include Grove River Ranch, LLC - Equestrian Center and Retreat for travelers with horses, Commerce/Athens KOA for a full-service private park close to the interstate, and Georgia RV Park for a straightforward hookup stay.
Things to do near Pendergrass
Water recreation dominates the area. Lake Lanier is a 38,000-acre water source, and the lake offers fishing, boating, swimming, and much more. At Fort Yargo, outdoor recreation includes boating with 10 mph motors or less, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, miniature golf, disc golf, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
Land-based options include trail systems at both state parks. Don Carter features a playground, boat ramps, swim beach, fish cleaning station, gift shop, picnic pavilions and outdoor fitness equipment. Fort Yargo also preserves the 1792 log fort, useful for a short history stop with kids.
Athens, home to the University of Georgia, adds college-town dining, museums, and football weekends within a short drive.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of Georgia. Daytime highs sit in the 70s Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, and pollen tapers off by late spring. Wildflowers and dogwoods peak in April, and hardwood color arrives in late October and early November.
Summer is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Lake beaches and swimming areas at Don Carter and Fort Yargo draw heavy family traffic, and reservations are strongly recommended for weekends and summer stays, when campgrounds fill quickly. Book well ahead for holiday weekends, especially July 4 and Labor Day.
Winter is mild but wet. Freezes occur overnight in January and February, and multi-day cold snaps can affect water hookups. Both state parks operate year-round, and off-season stays offer easier availability. Athens football weekends in the fall spike demand at every campground within a 30-mile radius, so plan around the University of Georgia home schedule if flexibility matters.

Our family had a wonderful trip in Michael’s rv. It was spotless and comfortable. The length made parking it a breeze. Thanks for renting out your home away from home!

Michael is GREAT! RV is wonderful! Had the best time!
Camper was great and so was communication with owner. Would gladly use them again.

The hosts for this camper were amazing. Both husband and wife came down do an intro and walkthrough of the camper. Everything you could possibly imagine needing for a week at a campsite was included, they truly thought if everything. The camper was immaculately cared for and very well optioned. Massive awning, great kitchen, double bathrooms and the AC was great. It was 95 for our entire stay and the camper stayed cool every day. The hosts were very gracious, while we didn’t need anything during our trip, I’m confident that if we had called they would have been right there to help. Highly recommend using axel and anchor - they turned our rental into an entire experience….we had a great time.
