Campgrounds near Reed Creek
Reed Creek sits in northeast Georgia on the western shore of Lake Hartwell, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Savannah River that straddles the Georgia and South Carolina state line. The lake covers about 56,000 acres with 962 miles of shoreline and supports one of the highest concentrations of public and private campgrounds in the Southeast, making it a practical base for an RV trip focused on the water.
Most RV renters stage close to the lake. Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday, Rock Springs RV Park, and Big Water Marina & Campground sit on the Georgia side within a short drive of Reed Creek. Across the state line in South Carolina, Carolina Landing RV Resort and Sadlers Creek State Park offer sites on peninsulas that extend into the reservoir.
The area mixes private RV resorts, a Thousand Trails membership park, Corps of Engineers campgrounds, and a South Carolina state park. That range gives renters options for full-hookup convenience, budget-friendly public sites, and quieter state-park loops within a short drive of downtown Hartwell and Anderson.
Things to do near Reed Creek
Lake Hartwell is the main draw. Boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for largemouth bass, striped bass, hybrid bass, black crappie, catfish, and bream fill most trip itineraries. Public boat ramps, sandy swim beaches, and courtesy docks are scattered around the shoreline, and Big Water Marina & Campground offers slips and fuel service on the Georgia side. Sadlers Creek State Park adds a 5.4-mile loop bike trail, a boat ramp, and lakeside picnic shelters.
On land, the Hartwell Dam and Lake Visitor Center has interpretive exhibits and views over the dam. Historic downtown Hartwell offers antique shops, cafes, and Main Street dining, and Clemson and Anderson are both short drives away for game days, restaurants, and shopping.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel in this part of Georgia and upstate South Carolina. Days are mild, humidity is lower, and the shoulder seasons avoid both peak summer heat and the wettest winter months. Fall foliage typically peaks from late October into early November.
Summer is the busy season on Lake Hartwell. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day book out well in advance, especially at Corps of Engineers campgrounds and Sadlers Creek State Park. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and humidity is high. Lake levels are managed by the Corps for flood control and hydropower, so shoreline depth can shift through the season.
Winters are cool and wet rather than snowy. Private parks like Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday and Carolina Landing RV Resort remain open year round, while several Corps campgrounds close or reduce operations from late fall through early spring. Confirm dates directly with the campground before booking a cold-weather trip.
How to book campgrounds near Reed Creek
Reservation systems vary by operator. Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Hartwell Lake are booked through Recreation.gov on a six-month rolling window that releases new dates daily at 10 a.m. Eastern, and prime waterfront sites for summer holidays go quickly when they open. Sadlers Creek State Park takes reservations through the South Carolina State Parks system, with a two-night minimum stay on standard campsites.
Private parks handle their own bookings. Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday, Rock Springs RV Park, and Big Water Marina & Campground reserve directly through their websites or by phone. Carolina Landing RV Resort is a Thousand Trails property; members access it through their camping pass, while non-members can book stays directly with the resort.
What to expect on-site
Most Lake Hartwell campgrounds offer 30 and 50 amp electric with water at each site, dump stations, and paved or gravel pads. Full sewer hookups are more common at private parks like Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday and Carolina Landing RV Resort than at Corps or state-park sites, so plan tank management accordingly.
Terrain is rolling and often wooded. Carolina Landing RV Resort is notably hilly with sites that commonly require leveling blocks, and larger rigs should confirm length limits before booking. Sadlers Creek State Park has 52 packed-gravel sites with individual water and electric, and some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet.
Expect biting insects in summer and heavy pollen in spring. Pets are welcome at most parks on a leash, and firewood should be sourced locally to comply with pest rules on both sides of the state line.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reed%20Creek%2C%20GeorgiaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Reed Creek, GA?
Great news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Reed Creek. Georgia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally, no matter the size. You'll just need to be 25 or older and upload a valid driver's license through the RVezy platform for quick ID verification. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. That's it. Most renters are surprised at how simple the paperwork is before they're rolling toward Lake Hartwell.
dds.georgia.gov/license-classesWhat protection is included with my Reed Creek RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head to Lake Hartwell with peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), letting you match coverage to your comfort level, and the plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip. Pro tip: take photos and a short video at pickup and drop-off. That quick habit keeps any claim simple and helps protect your security deposit on your Reed Creek RV trip.

If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credit. If plans change, contact RVezy support directly through the app. Book with confidence knowing your Lake Hartwell weekend is backed by a clear, platform-wide policy.

Yes. Pet-friendly RV rental Reed Creek options are easy to find on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Paynes Creek Campground allows leashed pets, Sadlers Creek State Park (about 20 minutes away in SC) has shaded trails, and US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds around the lake permit dogs on a 6-foot leash. Pack a tie-out, a collapsible water bowl, and your pup's vaccination record, and you are set.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/454Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Reed Creek?
Yes. RV delivery Reed Creek is one of the best options for stress-free trips. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer directly at popular spots like Paynes Creek Campground, Watsadler Campground, or Hartwell KOA, then walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and message the host with your campsite number. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location. For first-timers it removes the towing, backing in, and setup learning curve so you can just arrive and enjoy your Lake Hartwell trip.

Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, with many offering generous daily allowances (typically 100-150 miles per day) and some advertising RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for longer Georgia loops. From Reed Creek, you are roughly 25 miles to Anderson, SC; 55 miles to Athens, GA; 110 miles to Atlanta; 60 miles to Greenville, SC; and about 2.5 hours to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Review the mileage policy on each listing before booking, and if you are planning a big loop, message the host. Many will increase your allowance for a small flat fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reed%20Creek%2C%20GeorgiaWhere are the best campgrounds near Reed Creek, GA?
Some of the best campgrounds near Reed Creek sit right on Lake Hartwell's shoreline. Paynes Creek Campground (Hartwell, GA) offers waterfront sites with water and electric hookups. Watsadler Campground is a popular US Army Corps of Engineers park on the lake. Hartwell KOA adds full hookups, a pool, and cabins. Just over the South Carolina line, Sadlers Creek State Park is a quieter alternative with lake access. US Army Corps of Engineers sites book through Recreation.gov, often up to 6 months in advance for summer weekends, so reserve early for waterfront spots.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/454When is the best time to take an RV trip from Reed Creek?
Spring (April through early June) and fall (mid-September through late October) are the sweet spots for an RV trip Reed Creek travelers enjoy. Daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s, humidity drops, and fall foliage around Lake Hartwell is beautiful. Summer (June-August) brings highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and afternoon thunderstorms, great for swimming and water sports if your rig has strong AC. Winters are mild (40s-50s highs), and many Lake Hartwell campgrounds stay open year-round, so a quiet January weekend in a heated motorhome is very doable.
weather.gov/ffc/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will do great. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, and dump procedure. You can message the host with questions any time before or during your trip, and RVezy support is available to help. For Reed Creek specifically, ask your host to demo the leveling blocks (Lake Hartwell sites can be sloped) and the awning. Choose a travel trailer or small Class C for your first trip, and consider host delivery to skip the towing learning curve entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003356273-RentersWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 29 or a dead battery at Paynes Creek is one phone call away from being resolved. Roadside help can dispatch tire service, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for quick questions like which propane valve to turn. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway, then focus on the fun part: choosing which Lake Hartwell cove to explore.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Reed Creek RV rental across state lines or into other regions?
Yes, and an RV road trip from Reed Creek is well set up for it. You are right on the Georgia-South Carolina line, so crossing into SC for Anderson, Greenville, or onward to the Blue Ridge Parkway is straightforward and covered by RVezy protection. Most hosts also welcome trips throughout the southeastern US, including Asheville, NC (about 2.5 hours), Savannah (about 4 hours), or the Florida coast. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Some hosts allow travel into Canada, so confirm during booking. Always share your route with your host in the message thread so everyone is aligned.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what does gas cost around Reed Creek?
Budgeting is straightforward. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves; your tow vehicle's MPG typically drops about 20-40% when towing. Class C motorhomes generally get 8-12 MPG, Class B campervans 15-20 MPG, and large Class A rigs 6-10 MPG. Georgia gas prices usually run a bit below the national average, with convenient fuel stops along I-85 in Lavonia and nearby exits. For a 4-day Lake Hartwell trip with about 200 miles of driving in a Class C, budget roughly $80-$120 in fuel. Filling up before you return the RV is almost always cheaper than the host's refuel fee.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Reed Creek?
Book early to lock in waterfront sites, especially for summer weekends and holidays. US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Lake Hartwell, including Paynes Creek and Watsadler, open reservations up to 6 months out on Recreation.gov, and prime water-view spots are often gone within hours of release. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months prior. Shoulder-season trips (April, September, October) often have availability 2-4 weeks out. Hartwell KOA books through its own site. Pro tip: midweek arrivals beat the weekend rush and often unlock better sites.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/454What are driving conditions like around Reed Creek for a larger RV?
Reed Creek is comfortable to drive. You are on the rural east side of Hart County with wide two-lane roads, light traffic, and easy access to I-85, the main route between Atlanta and Greenville. Highway 29 and Highway 77 handle larger rigs well. Watch for a few low-clearance railroad bridges in downtown Hartwell, plan fuel stops at major interchanges where big-rig pumps are easy to access, and use lower gears on the rolling hills near the lake. Overall, it is a friendly area for first-time RV drivers looking to ease into a larger vehicle.
dot.ga.gov/DriveSmartWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Reed Creek?
Lake Hartwell campgrounds are well-equipped for a smooth stay. Paynes Creek and Watsadler offer electric and water hookups at most sites, shower and restroom buildings, dump stations, swim beaches, courtesy docks, and boat ramps, ideal for RV camping Reed Creek style. Most US Army Corps sites do not have sewer hookups at individual pads, so plan to use the on-site dump station before leaving. Potable water fill stations are available at campground entrances. Hartwell KOA adds full hookups, Wi-Fi, a pool, and a camp store. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a sewer hose, and a surge protector, three items that make any site feel like home.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/454What's typically included inside a Reed Creek motorhome rental?
You will be comfortably set up. A typical motorhome rental Reed Creek listing on RVezy includes a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette or sofa beds, roof AC, furnace heat, a generator or shore power, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Wi-Fi is usually BYO hotspot, and cellular coverage around Lake Hartwell is generally solid. Each listing details the sleep count and amenities, so filter by Sleeps to match your group, from a family of four to a crew of eight.

Many hosts offer delivery to Paynes Creek, Watsadler, or your driveway for a per-mile fee. Pickup is usually at the host's home, with a 30-60 minute walkthrough. Mileage policies vary, with 100-150 free miles per day being common and some listings offering unlimited mileage. Filter by Instant Book if you want to skip the approval step and lock in your dates immediately, which is great for last-minute Lake Hartwell trips.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reed%20Creek%2C%20GeorgiaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. Most listings require a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) that is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after a successful return. To avoid deposit issues: do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup, return the RV on time, refill fuel and propane to pickup levels, and empty the holding tanks at a dump station. Communicate any small issues with your host through the app.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trips from Reed Creek for a family RV adventure?
You are well positioned for a family RV trip Reed Creek travelers love. Top routes: Athens, GA (about 55 miles) for college-town charm and the State Botanical Garden; Helen, GA (about 90 miles) for the Bavarian village and Unicoi State Park; Asheville, NC (about 140 miles) for the Blue Ridge Parkway and Biltmore; Greenville, SC (about 60 miles) for Falls Park downtown; and Savannah, GA (about 260 miles) for coastal history. Local insider tip: detour to Toccoa Falls, a 186-foot waterfall on a college campus that is a free, jaw-dropping stop most visitors miss.
