Campgrounds near Sandy Springs
Sandy Springs sits just inside I-285 on the north side of metro Atlanta, so most RV options are short drives out to Cobb County or east toward Stone Mountain rather than inside the city itself. The closest full-hookup park is Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort, roughly 13 miles from downtown Atlanta and a straightforward run down I-75 from Sandy Springs. It offers 50, 30, and 20 amp electric at every site, water and sewer, paved sites with patios, a coin laundry, and shower suites.
About 25 miles east, Stone Mountain Park Family Campground anchors a 3,200 acre park with 441 wooded sites, including 144 full hookups, 254 water and electric sites, and 43 primitive tent sites. It functions as the main family destination in the region and books through Campspot.
Jones RV Park and Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park round out the nearby options, generally catering to longer stays and travelers who want a simpler base within reach of the city. Stone Mountain Campground is the same property as the Stone Mountain Park Family Campground, listed under its shorter Campspot name.
Things to do near Sandy Springs
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area runs along the west edge of Sandy Springs with paddling, fishing, and riverside trails at Island Ford and Powers Island. Downtown Atlanta attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden, are 30 to 45 minutes south depending on traffic. Truist Park and The Battery in Cumberland sit just south of Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort for Braves games and dining.
For families staying at Stone Mountain, the park itself offers hiking to the summit, a scenic railroad, the Summit Skyride gondola, a seasonal laser show on summer evenings, and events including Pumpkin Festival programming in fall and Snow Mountain in winter. White-water rafting on the Chattahoochee closer to Marietta is another regional draw.

The Atlanta area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers and mild, damp winters. Most campgrounds in the region, including Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort and Stone Mountain Park Family Campground, operate year-round, but pool and store hours contract from late fall through early spring, and Stone Mountain's seasonal attractions run on reduced schedules outside peak months.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. March and April can be rainy but bring dogwoods, azaleas, and cooler nights, while October and November tend to be drier with turning hardwoods. Summer camping is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and holiday weekends fill fast.
Winter is the quietest season. Freezes happen on roughly three dozen nights a year from November through March, so travelers should manage fresh-water hoses and tanks accordingly. Snow is rare, averaging around two inches per year, but occasional ice events can briefly close roads.

How to book campgrounds near Sandy Springs
Stone Mountain Park Family Campground takes reservations through Campspot, either on the park's website or the Campspot platform. A two-night minimum applies to most stays, with a three-night minimum on holiday weekends. The maximum stay is seven nights, extended to two weeks for motorhomes. Lakefront sites are the first to sell out and should be booked well in advance for spring, summer, and fall weekends.
Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort accepts online bookings and phone reservations directly with the park, and after-hours check-in is available. Jones RV Park and Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park generally require calling the office to confirm availability, especially for weekly or monthly stays.
What to expect on arrival
At Stone Mountain, campers pay a per-vehicle daily park entrance fee at the gate on arrival, then pick up a parking pass covering the full stay at the campground registration desk. The east gate off Highway 78 is the most direct route in, with the campground about 1.5 miles down Stonewall Jackson Drive. Check-in runs from mid-afternoon into the evening, though the registration desk and general store close at 5 pm on weekdays and 4 pm on weekends.
Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort sites are paved and generally level, with patios and picnic tables, but they sit relatively close together and highway noise from I-75 carries into the park. Cell coverage is strong across the listed campgrounds; Wi-Fi quality varies, so travelers who need reliable connectivity should plan on a hotspot.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Sandy Springs, GA
How much does an RV rental in Sandy Springs typically cost?
RV rental in Sandy Springs is reasonably priced for a major metro area. On RVezy, expect roughly $95 to $175 per night for a campervan rental in Sandy Springs, $135 to $225 for a travel trailer, and $200 to $350 for a Class C motorhome rental in Sandy Springs. Total trip cost depends on nightly rate, mileage, and any add-ons the host offers. For a cheaper RV rental in Sandy Springs, book midweek in late winter or early spring, choose a travel trailer over a motorhome, and filter for Instant Book to lock in transparent pricing. Pro tip: hosts near Roswell Road and GA-400 often offer better value than those right off I-285.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sandy%20Springs%2C%20GeorgiaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Sandy Springs, GA?
Great news for first-timers: a regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sandy Springs. Georgia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use RVs, regardless of whether you're driving a campervan, Class C motorhome, or towing a travel trailer behind your truck. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll verify your ID right through the platform during checkout, so there's no DMV trip required. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country's valid driver's license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. Most first-time renters in metro Atlanta are surprised by how quick the booking process really is.
dds.georgia.gov/license-typesWhat protection comes with my Sandy Springs RV rental?
You're covered from the moment you hit the road. Every RV rental in Sandy Springs booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked at Stone Mountain Park or rolling down GA-400. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind without arranging separate coverage. During checkout, you choose the level of protection that fits your trip (basic, standard, or premium), so you're in control. This is in addition to the host's RV being road-ready and inspected before pickup, so you can focus on your Sandy Springs RV trip, not the paperwork.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Sandy Springs RV trip?
You can book with confidence. RVezy sets a clear, guest-friendly cancellation policy on every reservation, including a full money-back grace period right after booking so you have time to sort out the details. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out you cancel from your trip start date, and there are special protections for unexpected events like hurricanes, tropical storms, or other natural disasters that can affect travel to the Atlanta metro. Because RVezy sets cancellation terms (not individual hosts), the process stays consistent no matter which RV in Sandy Springs you choose. Pro tip: if Georgia weather looks iffy, message our support team early, we're available before, during, and after every trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Sandy Springs RV trip?
Absolutely, pets are welcome on plenty of Sandy Springs rentals. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see every pet-friendly RV rental in Sandy Springs at a glance, then message the host to confirm any specifics like deposit, breed, or number of pets. Once you've got your rig, Sandy Springs is genuinely dog-friendly: the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area has leashed-dog trails at the Cochran Shoals and East Palisades units, Morgan Falls Overlook Park has a popular off-leash dog park right on the river, and most North Georgia state park campgrounds welcome dogs at the site. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, Georgia summers get hot fast and your pup will thank you on the Cochran Shoals loop.
nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to me in Sandy Springs?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Sandy Springs, meaning they'll drive the rig to your driveway, hotel, or directly to a campground like Stone Mountain Park or Don Carter State Park, then set it up, level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, or message the host to confirm the fee (often based on round-trip mileage from their home base). Delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), nervous about big-city driving on I-285, or just want a true turnkey first-timer experience.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008794-Delivery-optionsHow does mileage work, and how far can I realistically go from Sandy Springs?
You've got real range to play with. Most hosts include a set number of free miles per night (commonly 100 to 150), with reasonable per-mile fees beyond that, and some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, just filter or ask the host directly. From Sandy Springs you can reach a huge variety of destinations within a tank: Helen, GA and the North Georgia mountains (about 90 miles), Chattanooga, TN (about 125 miles), Savannah's coast (about 250 miles), the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 175 miles), and Charleston, SC (about 305 miles). Pro tip for any RV road trip from Sandy Springs: map your route on Google Maps with the avoid-tolls setting first, then estimate total miles and pick the right mileage package upfront, it's almost always cheaper than paying overage at return.
nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere can I camp near Sandy Springs?
You're spoiled for choice within an hour of town. Top picks for RV camping in Sandy Springs include Stone Mountain Park Campground (about 25 miles east, full hookups, lakeside sites, and the famous laser show), Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort (about 15 miles west off I-75, full hookups and a quick base for the city), Twin Lakes RV Park in Cumming (about 30 miles north near Lake Lanier), McKinney Campground on Lake Allatoona (about 35 miles northwest, Army Corps of Engineers, waterfront sites), and Don Carter State Park on the north end of Lake Lanier (about 50 miles, spacious sites and a swim beach). Pro tip: book Army Corps and state park sites through Recreation.gov the moment your dates are set, weekends fill 4 to 6 months out.
gastateparks.org/DonCarterWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Sandy Springs?
Sandy Springs has one of the longest RV seasons in the country, which means flexibility is on your side. The sweet spot is mid-March through late May, when daytime highs run 65 to 80 F and the dogwoods and azaleas are in bloom, and again mid-September through early November, when fall foliage peaks in the North Georgia mountains and highs settle in the 60s and 70s. Summer (June to August) brings 85 to 92 F and humidity, perfect for lake camping at Allatoona or Lanier with full AC hookups. Winter is genuinely mild (40s to 55 F days), so many campgrounds stay open year-round. Local insider tip: avoid I-285 during Atlanta Falcons home weekends and the Masters week in April if you're heading anywhere south.
weather.gov/ffc/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay?
You'll do great. First time renting an RV is way less intimidating than it looks. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering how to operate the slide-outs, awning, generator, water system, propane, and dump valves, plus a walk-through of the dashboard and mirrors. They'll answer every question and are reachable by phone or message during your trip if anything comes up. For your first Sandy Springs RV trip, start with a smaller Class C motorhome rental in Sandy Springs or a campervan rental in Sandy Springs (both drive like an oversized van), pick a campground within 60 miles for night one, and avoid rush hour on I-285 and GA-400. By day two, you'll feel like a pro.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003443594-For-rentersWhat if something breaks down on my trip?
Take a deep breath, you're not on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, tow service, and mechanical breakdowns whether you're stuck on I-285, on GA-400 heading to Helen, or deep in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Step one: pull over safely, then call the roadside number on your trip confirmation. Step two: message your host, they know their RV best and can often troubleshoot small things (like a tripped GFCI or finicky water pump) over the phone in minutes. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after the trip, so help is always one tap away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my Sandy Springs RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, interstate travel is absolutely fair game, and one of the best perks of an RV road trip from Sandy Springs. Popular routes include heading north on I-75 to Chattanooga and the Smoky Mountains, east on I-20 to Charleston and Myrtle Beach, or south on I-95 to Florida's Gulf Coast and the Keys. Travel into Canada may be allowed on some listings (message the host first so they can confirm and notify their insurance), but travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance coverage limits. Local insider tip: if you're crossing into Tennessee or the Carolinas, fill up in Georgia, fuel is often 20 to 40 cents cheaper per gallon than across the state line.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for, and what does gas cost around Sandy Springs?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for. Expect roughly 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG) for a campervan rental in Sandy Springs, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C motorhome rental in Sandy Springs, and 12 to 16 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Georgia gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, you'll find the cheapest fuel along I-285 at QuikTrip and RaceTrac stations (often 15 to 25 cents cheaper than stations on GA-400 in Sandy Springs proper). Pro tip: download the GasBuddy app before you leave, plan fuel stops at travel centers like Pilot or Love's where big-rig pumps make pulling in with an RV easy, and budget about $0.30 to $0.50 per mile in fuel for a Class C.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Sandy Springs?
The earlier the better, but you've got options. For the best campgrounds near Sandy Springs, like Stone Mountain Park, McKinney Campground on Lake Allatoona, and Don Carter State Park on Lake Lanier, book 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends, fall foliage season (October), and any Atlanta Falcons or Georgia Bulldogs home football weekend. Reserve U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites through Recreation.gov and Georgia State Park sites through ReserveAmerica or gastateparks.org. Private parks like Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort and Twin Lakes RV Park in Cumming usually have more flexibility, often 2 to 4 weeks out. Local insider tip: midweek (Sunday to Thursday) availability opens up dramatically, and many state park sites release cancellations 14 days before, set a Recreation.gov alert.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like in and around Sandy Springs?
With a few smart moves, driving an RV here is very manageable. Sandy Springs sits right on I-285 (the Perimeter) and GA-400, two highways that get heavy commuter traffic weekdays from 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM, so plan pickups and drop-offs midmorning or midday. Watch for low clearances around the Buckhead and Midtown bridges if you're in a Class A or tall Class C (most major routes clear 13'6", but some side streets don't), and stick to truck-friendly routes like I-75, I-85, and GA-400 north. The roads quickly turn rural and scenic once you head north past Roswell. Pro tip: use the Trucker Path app to avoid surprise low bridges and find big-rig-friendly fuel stops along your route.
511ga.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Sandy Springs?
You'll find a great range, from full-resort to back-to-nature. Most private RV parks within 30 miles of Sandy Springs (Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort, Twin Lakes RV Park) offer full hookups with 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, laundry, bathhouses, and a pool. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Lake Allatoona (McKinney, Old Highway 41 #3) and Lake Lanier typically offer water and electric at the site plus a central dump station, with lake swimming and boat ramps. Georgia state parks like Don Carter and Red Top Mountain offer water/electric with dump stations, bathhouses, and hiking trails. Pro tip: there's a public RV dump station at Red Top Mountain State Park if you need one mid-trip, and most Georgia state parks let you fill fresh water at the bathhouse spigot.
gastateparks.org/RedTopMountainWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Sandy Springs?
More than you'd expect, even on the smaller rigs. A typical Class C motorhome rental in Sandy Springs sleeps 4 to 7 with a queen bed, dinette and overhead bunk that convert to beds, a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bath with shower and toilet, roof AC, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Most include a TV, some with a backup camera, awning, outdoor speakers, and a generator for boondocking. Campervans are more compact (sleep 2 to 4) but pack the essentials, while travel trailers and fifth wheels run larger with full bathrooms and king beds. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check the photo gallery, every RVezy listing shows real photos of the actual rig you'll be picking up.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and options do hosts typically offer?
Lots, and they make the trip easier. Common Sandy Springs RV add-ons include delivery and setup, generator use (often a flat daily fee plus per-hour after a free allotment), bedding and linen packages, kitchen and cookware kits, camp chairs and outdoor mats, bike racks, propane refills, and dump/cleaning services so you skip the final chores. Mileage packages are usually offered as tiers (e.g., 100 free miles per night, with prepaid bundles cheaper than overage), and pickup/dropoff windows are set by each host on their listing. Pro tip: bundle the cleaning fee and a dump-tank add-on if you're returning on a Sunday evening, you'll roll right in, hand over the keys, and head home instead of hunting for a dump station near I-285.
rvezy.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy directly (never cash to the host), with a portion typically charged at booking and the balance before your trip starts, all on a single card. The security deposit is a hold placed on your card shortly before pickup, not a charge, it simply ensures the RV comes back in the same shape it left. Deposit amounts vary by RV but are clearly shown on each listing before you book. As long as you return the RV clean, on time, with the tanks handled per the host's instructions, the hold is released within a few business days after drop-off. Pro tip: snap photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and return, it's the easiest way to keep your deposit refund stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or store an RV in Sandy Springs before or after my trip?
You have a few easy options. The City of Sandy Springs allows RVs to be parked on private residential driveways but not on public streets overnight, so plan ahead if you're picking up from a host's home. For longer stays, secure storage facilities along Roswell Road and near Northridge Road offer covered and uncovered RV spots, and several U-Haul and Extra Space locations near I-285 accept big rigs by the day or month. If you just need a quick overnight before heading out, the nearest full-hookup option is Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort, about 15 miles west. Pro tip: ask your RVezy host if they offer convenient pickup and dropoff at their location, many do, and it saves you the parking puzzle entirely.
