Campgrounds and RV parks near Screven, GA

The area's biggest draw is water. The Altamaha and Satilla rivers are within reach for kayaking, bass and bream fishing, and slow float trips, and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge sits a short drive southwest for boardwalk hikes, guided boat tours, and alligator viewing. Families with an RV base near Screven often day-trip to the coast. Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, and Brunswick offer beaches, bike paths, a sea turtle center, and historic districts, all reachable in about 90 minutes. Cumberland Island National Seashore is accessible by ferry from St. Marys. Closer to camp, expect small-town diners, boiled peanut stands, county fairgrounds events, and Waycross-area attractions including Obediah's Okefenok and Southern Forest World.

Southeast Georgia has a long RV season. Spring, roughly March through May, brings warm days, blooming azaleas, and the region's most comfortable camping weather. Bugs are still manageable and inland parks fill on weekends, particularly around Easter and Memorial Day. Summer runs hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Highs regularly push into the low 90s and heat indices climb higher, so shaded sites and full hookups with reliable power for air conditioning matter. Coastal campgrounds book well ahead for the school-break window from mid-June through early August. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks from August into October, and travelers should track NOAA and National Hurricane Center advisories when planning coastal stays. Fall brings lower humidity, fewer bugs, and mild nights, making it a favorite for return visitors. Winter is short and generally mild, with occasional freezes. Most parks in the area stay open year-round, though some seasonal amenities such as pools close from roughly late September through April.

Sites in the Screven area are generally level, gravel or grass, and set among tall pines. Most private parks offer 30 and 50 amp hookups, potable water, and dump stations. Bathhouses vary from basic to well maintained, so it helps to confirm amenities when reserving. Mosquitoes, gnats, and no-see-ums are active from late spring through early fall. Bring repellent, screen rooms, and after-dark plans that keep kids covered up. Summer thunderstorms can be intense but brief, and low-lying sites near rivers can hold water after heavy rain. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in Jesup, Waycross, and Brunswick. Rural roads between parks are two-lane with limited lighting, so plan arrivals before dusk when possible.
