Camping near Stonecrest, Georgia
Stonecrest sits in eastern DeKalb County, roughly 20 miles east of downtown Atlanta and inside the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area, a landscape of granite outcrops just east of the city along I-20. RV travelers use the area as a base for exploring monadnocks, paved multi-use paths, and metro Atlanta attractions without staying in the city itself.
The closest full-service campground is Stone Mountain Campground, part of Stone Mountain Park north of Stonecrest. It is a large, established property with hundreds of wooded sites offering full hook-ups, partial hook-ups with water and electricity, and primitive tent sites, plus amenities including a swimming pool, playground, supply store, laundry facilities, and comfort stations with showers. The same property is also referenced as Stone Mountain Park Family Campground. Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park sits nearby for longer-term parking.
East of Stonecrest, Brooks Lake and the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers add options for equestrian travelers and event-goers. The Horse Park spans roughly 1,400 acres and includes horse trails, mountain bike trails, RV camping, wetlands with a nature center, and a disc golf course.
Things to do around Stonecrest
Hiking is the main draw. Panola Mountain State Park protects a fragile granite monadnock, and its summit is accessible only via ranger-led guided hikes, while visitors can explore trails for hiking, biking, and running that connect into the larger Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. The Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve adds exposed granite domes, boardwalks, and wildflower flats.
Cyclists and families can ride the paved Arabia Mountain PATH, which winds through Stonecrest and links the Mall at Stonecrest with Panola Mountain State Park through rock outcrops, creeks, and woodlands.
At Stone Mountain Park, the campground gives quick access to hiking trails, the lake, and the cable-car ride to the summit. The Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers hosts equestrian shows, mountain bike races, and festivals through the year.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Both shoulder seasons are known for day-to-day variability, with the average first freeze arriving in autumn and the average last freeze in early spring. Wildflowers peak on the granite outcrops in March and April, and fall foliage typically runs from late October into mid-November.
Summer is hot and humid. Afternoon highs in the metro area sit in the upper 80s, and readings of 90 or higher are common through July and August, while overnight lows stay in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are frequent from late spring through summer, so campers should plan for wet awnings and quick site drainage.
Winters are mild but variable. Stretches of relatively mild weather alternate with cold snaps, with winter highs averaging in the low 50s and lows in the mid 30s. Freezing nights occur but hard freezes are limited. Campgrounds around Stone Mountain and the Horse Park operate year-round, so cool-season RV trips are practical.

Working with Rob was wonderful. We had a medical issue that required a shift in dates and possible postponement and he could not have been more accommodating. We are new to rv travel and he gave thorough walk through, let me record it, and was also very available via text as we had questions on the trip. The rv itself is older, which greatly helped with containing the price and Rob is generous with mileage limits. Despite an older model, everything is clean and in good working order. The beds were very comfortable. We loved getting to try out the rv life and Rob was the perfect host to let us do so.

Perfect size RV with an awesome host! We take a yearly RV camping trip with friends (12 years running). This was my second time renting from Rob and of all the hosts we have used, he is the best!!! Not only is he on top of everything, his RV has everything we need and is so easy to drive. Great experience from start to finish!

Booking and reservation notes
Stone Mountain Campground takes reservations online and by phone. A two-night minimum and a one-night deposit are collected at the time the reservation is made, except on major holidays including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, which require a three-night minimum and payment in full at booking. Lakefront sites move fast, and holiday weekends fill months in advance. Cancellations more than five days before arrival receive a refund of the deposit less a cancellation fee, while cancellations within five days of arrival forfeit the deposit.
The Georgia International Horse Park operates differently. Guests planning to stay in an RV for an event or show contact the event promoter directly, while individual overnight stays not tied to an event are arranged through the Horse Park office. Blocks of sites are often held for competitors, so calling ahead is important when a show is on the calendar.
Smaller properties such as Brooks Lake and Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park handle bookings by phone and often require prior arrangement for longer stays.
What to expect on arrival
Stone Mountain Park has a specific access rule for RVs. GPS may route drivers to the park's West Gate, which has a 12-foot underpass, so taller rigs should use the East Gate via Exit 8 on US-78. Late arrivals are common, and a night registration area outside the campground office handles after-hours check-in, while yurts, rental trailers, and safari tents must be checked in by 10 PM.
Sites are wooded and can be uneven, so bring leveling blocks. Cell coverage is generally good across the metro area, but tree cover thins the signal at some interior sites. Stone Mountain Park itself charges a daily parking fee that is separate from campground fees.
The Georgia International Horse Park caters to big rigs and equestrian traffic, with paved access and hook-ups near the stable and arena complexes.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stonecrest%2C%20GeorgiaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Stonecrest, GA?

Georgia does not require a Commercial Driver's License for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, so a standard noncommercial Class C license covers everything from a Class B campervan to a 32-foot Class C motorhome on RVezy. International guests should bring an International Driving Permit alongside their home-country license. RVezy verifies every guest's ID through the platform, and approved drivers are generally 25 or older. That's it, no special test, no endorsement, no surprises before your first time renting an RV in metro Atlanta.

RVezy offers tiered protection plans that cover most physical damage to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host. While it isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides substantial financial protection if something unexpected happens on your Georgia road trip. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Stonecrest RV rental?
Booking feels low-risk because RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy, and there is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that window, refund amounts depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook so your Stonecrest plans stay on track. Review the live cancellation terms in the RVezy Help Center before you confirm so you know exactly where you stand. That flexibility makes it easy to lock in a Stone Mountain or Lake Oconee getaway now and finalize plans as your dates approach.

weather.gov/ffc/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in Stonecrest?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host in the Stonecrest area provides a thorough orientation at pickup or delivery, walking you through driving, the propane system, slide-outs, the generator, water and waste tanks, and the electrical panel. You can message hosts directly from any listing before you book to ask about driving a Class C motorhome versus a smaller campervan, especially if I-285 traffic makes you nervous. RVezy's 24/7 support team is one tap away during your trip if anything comes up. Choose a Class B campervan or 24-foot Class C for your first rent an RV in Stonecrest experience, they handle just like a large van.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every motorhome rental Stonecrest booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on I-20, a dead battery at the Arabia Mountain trailhead, or a tow off GA-138 is one phone call away. The number appears in your trip details and the RVezy app the moment your booking is confirmed. For non-emergency issues like a finicky air conditioner or a slide-out that won't retract, message your host first, they know their rig best and most respond within minutes. RVezy customer support backs both of you up. That layered safety net is why thousands of guests confidently rent an RV in Georgia every year.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Stonecrest RV rental to other states or across the border?
Yes, an RV road trip from Stonecrest opens up the entire Southeast. Most RVezy hosts allow interstate travel, with popular routes including the Blue Ridge Parkway and Asheville, NC (about 165 miles), the Great Smoky Mountains (about 180 miles), Charleston, SC (about 300 miles), and the Florida panhandle beaches (about 330 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible with specific host approval and added documentation, so message the host before booking if that's your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend there. A loop through Helen and the North Georgia wine country (about 95 miles) is a perfect long-weekend route from Stonecrest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Stonecrest RV road trip?
Fuel is one of the easier line items to plan. Class B campervans average roughly 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get around 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes hover near 7 to 10 MPG. Towable travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 MPG combined. Georgia consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, so a 300-mile loop from Stonecrest to Helen and back in a Class C might run roughly $110 to $160 at recent pump prices. Fill up at Costco or Sam's Club in Stonecrest or Conyers before heading north, prices climb noticeably once you reach the mountain towns.

gastateparks.org/ReservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Stonecrest and metro Atlanta?
Driving an RV around Stonecrest is very manageable as long as you plan around rush hour. I-285 (the Perimeter) and I-20 between Stonecrest and downtown Atlanta back up significantly from about 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, so aim for mid-morning or evening departures. Watch for low clearances along older downtown viaducts, anything over 11 feet should stick to the interstates. Once you reach the Arabia Mountain area, Klondike Road and Evans Mill Road are smooth, two-lane drives that are great for larger rigs. Summer afternoon thunderstorms hit fast, so check the radar before rolling out and slow down on slick asphalt.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stonecrest%2C%20GeorgiaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure, all through the platform with major credit cards. You'll pay your rental total plus any fees at booking, and a refundable security deposit is held by RVezy (not the host) shortly before your trip starts. Deposit amounts vary by RV type and value and are shown on the listing and at checkout before you confirm. The hold is released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition, typically within a few days of the trip's end. Take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, it's the easiest way to avoid disputes and keep your full deposit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a true local insider tip for an RV trip from Stonecrest?
Here's the move locals love: skip the crowded Davidson-Arabia Mountain main lots on weekends and use one of the smaller trailheads along Klondike Road to connect to the paved Arabia Mountain PATH. The trail network links Arabia Mountain to Panola Mountain State Park and the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, a perfect bike ride from your RV. For an unforgettable evening, drive about 15 miles north to Stone Mountain Park for the seasonal Lasershow Spectacular over the lake. It's the kind of authentic Stonecrest RV trip moment guidebooks miss, and your campervan rental Stonecrest base camp puts you right in the middle of it.
