Camping near Waverly Hall, Georgia
Waverly Hall sits in Harris County in west-central Georgia, roughly a half-hour drive from Columbus and within easy reach of the Pine Mountain range. The area works well as an RV base for exploring FD Roosevelt State Park, Callaway Gardens, Warm Springs, and the Chattahoochee River corridor. Campgrounds within a short drive range from full-hookup private parks to a large Georgia state park and a Georgia Power lakeside campground.
Lake Pines Campground and RV Park, on the east side of Columbus, offers full hookups and pull-through sites suited to larger rigs. FD Roosevelt State Park, at 9,049 acres the largest state park in Georgia, has a modern campground with water and electric hookups near a small fishing lake. Pine Mountain RV Resort and Happy Trails Homestead add private options closer to the mountain and Callaway Gardens.
Blanton Creek Park Georgia Power sits on Lake Harding to the west and provides lakefront and lakeview sites with electric and water. Together these campgrounds cover most trip styles, from big-rig road stops to state-park stays with hiking and swimming access.
Things to do near Waverly Hall
Hiking is the main draw at FD Roosevelt State Park. The park contains more than 40 miles of trails, including the 23-mile Pine Mountain Trail through hardwood and pine forest with creek crossings and small waterfalls. Dowdell's Knob, a favorite picnic spot of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, offers a broad valley overlook and a life-size sculpture of the president.
Families often pair a park day with a visit to Roosevelt's Little White House State Historic Site in Warm Springs, home to FDR's modest cottage, a museum, and the pools that first drew him to the area. The Liberty Bell Swimming Pool, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and fed by cool springs, is a summer draw when open.
On the water, Lake Harding at Blanton Creek Park has a no-wake zone near the campground that suits kayaking and small-boat fishing, plus a boat ramp and swim area.

October and early November deliver cooler, drier weather and fall color in the hardwoods, and remain popular at FD Roosevelt State Park.
Summers are long, hot, and humid, with July highs averaging around 91 degrees Fahrenheit in nearby Columbus and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Shaded lakeside sites at Blanton Creek and wooded loops at FD Roosevelt help, and the Liberty Bell pool and lakes provide cooling options. Late-summer heat combines with the Atlantic hurricane season, which can push tropical moisture inland and cause washouts.
Winters are short and generally mild but wet, with December through February highs in the mid-50s Fahrenheit and cold snaps possible. Blanton Creek operates seasonally, open from March 1 through October 31, while FD Roosevelt State Park camping is available year-round with reduced weekday demand off-season.

How to book campgrounds near Waverly Hall
FD Roosevelt State Park uses the Georgia State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. Site-specific bookings mean RV site number, length, and hookups are chosen at the time of reservation, with a window of up to 13 months in advance for the general public and 14 months for Georgia residents. Lakefront and popular loops fill first for holiday weekends and peak spring and fall dates.
Blanton Creek Park is booked through the Georgia Power lakes reservation portal at reservations.gplakes.com, which lists electric campsites and tent-only sites separately. Several sites have asphalt pads where tent stakes are not permitted.
Lake Pines Campground and RV Park, Pine Mountain RV Resort, and Happy Trails Homestead are privately operated and accept direct reservations by phone or through their websites and third-party listing platforms. A Georgia ParkPass is required per vehicle for state park stays.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of wooded state-park loops, lakeside utility sites, and small private RV parks rather than large resort-style campgrounds. FD Roosevelt State Park has gravel pads with water and electric, 30- and 50-amp service, modern bathhouses within walking distance of sites, a laundry facility, a dump station, and a trading post selling firewood and basic supplies. Cell coverage inside the park can be spotty in the deeper loops.
Blanton Creek accommodates large RVs, with mature-tree shade, picnic tables, fire rings, laundry, hot showers, and a dump station. Big-rig access to Lake Pines is generally good, with pull-through sites and 30/50-amp service, though the surrounding roads are narrow in spots.
Bring bug spray in warmer months, insulated hookups for winter cold snaps, and a leash for pets, which are allowed at most sites but must be kept short.
