Campgrounds and RV parks near Woodbine, GA

The main draw is Cumberland Island National Seashore, reached by the passenger ferry from St. Marys. The island offers undeveloped beaches, wild horses, maritime forest, and the Dungeness ruins, all accessible on foot or by bike from the Sea Camp and Dungeness docks. Cars, kayaks, and pets are not allowed on the ferry, so day trips run out of the mainland campground. Closer to Woodbine, the East Coast Greenway runs along the Woodbine Riverwalk on the Satilla River, and Crooked River State Park has a nature center, boat ramp, and short trails through salt marsh where visitors often see gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, and wading birds. Anglers use the tidal rivers for redfish and trout, and the annual Georgia Crawfish Festival draws crowds to downtown Woodbine on the fourth Saturday of April.

Coastal southeast Georgia has a long, hot, humid summer and a short, mild winter. Spring, from March through May, is the most comfortable window for RV travel: warm days, cooler nights, and lower humidity before the biting insects peak. Fall, from late September through November, is a close second once the worst heat and afternoon thunderstorms fade. Summer brings daytime highs around 90°F, high humidity, and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms. It is also peak Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June through November and typically peaks in August and September. Coastal parks including Crooked River State Park may close or evacuate ahead of tropical systems, so travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories. Winter is mild, with highs commonly in the low sixties and only occasional freezes. The Cumberland Island ferry runs a reduced schedule from December through February with no service on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which affects trip planning for anyone hoping to combine camping in the area with a day on the island.

Sites in this part of coastal Georgia are generally level, with sandy or gravel pads and mature pine and live oak cover. Crooked River State Park offers a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, most with full or partial hookups, plus a bathhouse and laundry. Private parks near Woodbine tend to be smaller, quieter, and geared toward overnight and weekly stays. Cell coverage along the I-95 corridor is reliable, and many parks offer Wi-Fi at least in common areas. Quiet hours at the state park typically run overnight, so late arrivals should coordinate with the park office. Pack insect repellent year-round. Mosquitoes, no-see-ums, and ticks are active in the marshes, and summer sun and heat require sunscreen, shade, and extra water for kids and pets.
