Campgrounds and RV parks near Wrightsville, GA

Water recreation is the anchor at Little Ocmulgee State Park. The 256-acre lake supports bass, bream, catfish, and crappie fishing from bank, dock, or boat, with a sandy swim beach that traditionally opens in late May and closes in early September. A splash pad and pool at the lodge complex give families additional options during the summer heat. On land, the 2.6-mile Oak Ridge Trail crosses river bottomland, sand hill, oak, and bay forest, with a boardwalk through cypress swamp. Wildlife watchers may spot gopher tortoises and eastern indigo snakes, both protected species. The Wallace Adams Golf Course draws golfers to the same property. In Wrightsville itself, visitors find the town square, county parks, and small-town restaurants, with Dublin a short drive west for additional shopping and dining.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping near Wrightsville. March through May brings mild days, cool nights, and blooming dogwoods and azaleas, though rain showers pass through regularly. Fall runs warm into October, with October the driest month of the year and comfortable evenings that reduce insect pressure. Summer is hot and humid, with daytime highs frequently around 90 degrees and afternoon thunderstorms common. Little Ocmulgee's swim beach and splash pad help with the heat, and shaded sites under live oaks and Spanish moss are a real advantage. Book early for summer weekends, especially those tied to Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day, when demand at Georgia state parks peaks. Winter is short and mild by North American standards, with daytime highs typically in the upper 50s and overnight lows in the low 40s. Snow is very rare. Many private parks stay open year-round, campgrounds are quieter, and the Oak Ridge Trail is easier to hike without heat or bugs.

Sites in the area range from tent spots on private acreage to full-hookup RV pads with 30 and 50 amp service. Little Ocmulgee's campground has 54 sites, some with full hookups, plus restrooms, hot showers, a dump station, and laundry. Cable TV hookups are available at some sites, and both pull-through and back-in options are offered, with several sites able to handle larger rigs. Expect shady, wooded settings with live oaks, pines, and Spanish moss. Cell service is generally usable near town and at Little Ocmulgee but can be spotty at more remote private retreats. Check-in at Georgia state parks runs from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. and check-out is by noon. Pets are welcome on leash at most campgrounds but are kept out of swim beaches and enclosed buildings. Pack strong bug spray from late spring through early fall.
