Oahu has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round and two broad seasons: a drier summer from roughly May to October and a wetter winter from November to April. Temperatures near Hickam vary only modestly across the year, so campground season is effectively twelve months, but rainfall, surf, and demand shift noticeably. Winter brings the largest North Shore surf, occasional heavy rain bands, and high visitor volumes around the December holidays and school breaks. Kona lows and passing cold fronts can deliver bursts of heavy rain from October through March. Summer is drier and windier, with steady trade winds and calmer North Shore water suitable for snorkeling. Central Pacific hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September. Direct hits on Oahu are rare, but tropical systems can trigger park closures, high-surf advisories, and temporary suspensions of camping permits, so check DLNR alerts before travel.

RV infrastructure on Oahu is limited. No hookups are available at Camp Mokule‘ia, and most state and county beach parks are tent-oriented with basic restrooms, cold showers, and picnic tables rather than dedicated RV pads. Plan for boondocking-style stays and top off water and waste tanks when possible. Open wood campfires are not permitted on most public beaches and parks in Hawaii, and cooking is typically restricted to contained above-ground grills. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, and secure food storage. Rental campervans are common on Oahu and are often easier than towing. Expect narrow roads on the North Shore and windward coast, limited overnight parking in Honolulu proper, and heavy weekday traffic in and out of the Pearl Harbor area.
