Overview of camping near Iroquois Point
Iroquois Point sits on the south shore of Oahu next to Pearl Harbor, in a residential census-designated place operated as the Kapilina Beach Homes community. The area itself has no public campground, so RV renters treat it as a base for exploring Oahu and drive out to established camping areas on the North Shore, Windward Coast, or leeward side.
Oahu camping is split between two systems: state parks managed by the Hawaii Division of State Parks and beach parks managed by the City and County of Honolulu. A third option is private camps such as Camp Mokule‘ia on the North Shore, which handle their own bookings and welcome guests without a government permit.
An important constraint for RV renters: Hawaii state park campgrounds are not set up for camping in vehicles, and the City and County of Honolulu prohibits vehicular camping at its beach parks. Plan on pitching a tent at public sites and using the RV as transport, or booking a private campground like Camp Mokule‘ia that accepts vans and trailers.
Things to do near Iroquois Point
The Pearl Harbor Historic Sites are the closest major attraction, with the USS Arizona Memorial and the Battleship Missouri Memorial both a short drive from Iroquois Point. Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head State Monument, and the Honolulu Zoo are all within roughly a half-hour drive east.
Heading north to Camp Mokule‘ia opens up the North Shore, where the beach out front is used for snorkeling, stand-up paddling, and turtle watching. Winter brings the big-wave surf breaks at Pipeline and Waimea Bay, and humpback whales are visible offshore from December through March.
On the Windward side, Kualoa Regional Park offers dramatic Ko‘olau Mountain views, and Ahupua‘a ‘O Kahana State Park has hiking, archaeological sites, and a coastal fishpond.

Oahu is warm year-round, but rainfall and swell patterns shift noticeably between seasons. The wetter months run roughly from November through March, with brief showers common along the leeward south shore where Iroquois Point sits, and heavier rain in the windward valleys and inland hills. Winter also brings large north-shore swells and high-surf advisories that can close north-facing beaches to swimming.
Summer, from June through August, is the driest and calmest stretch on the south shore, with steady trade winds and small, beginner-friendly surf at Waikiki. UV levels are extreme through the summer, so sun protection is essential for day trips and time at camp.
Central Pacific hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and while direct hits on Oahu are rare, tropical systems can trigger campground closures on short notice. Check park-agency advisories before finalizing dates, especially in late summer and early fall.
How to book campgrounds near Iroquois Point
For state park sites on Oahu, reserve through the Hawaii state parks portal at camping.ehawaii.gov. Reservations open up to 30 days in advance, and permits must be paid at booking and printed before arrival.
For City and County of Honolulu beach parks, book at camping.honolulu.gov. Popular weekends can fill quickly, permits cover multi-night blocks per campsite, and county sites are closed Wednesday and Thursday each week.
Camp Mokule‘ia is booked directly through the camp using its online reservation request form, with staff following up to finalize the booking. No government permit is required, and both pitch-your-own tent sites and raised-platform fabric tentalos can be reserved.
What to expect when camping near Iroquois Point
RV renters should plan for tent-based camping at public sites. Both Hawaii state parks and the City and County of Honolulu prohibit sleeping in vehicles, including vans, campers, and trailers, and enforce this at parking areas near their campgrounds. Private options like Camp Mokule‘ia are the practical choice for staying in the rental itself.
Facilities vary widely. County beach parks tend to have basic restrooms and cold outdoor showers, while state parks range from developed sites with picnic tables to more rustic setups. Camp Mokule‘ia offers designated tent sites, raised-platform fabric tentalos, a hot-water shower house, firepits, and picnic tables, with the gate locked overnight.
Cell coverage is generally good across southern Oahu and patchy in windward valleys. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes for rocky entries, and a plan for securing valuables at unattended beach sites.
