From a Wahiawa base, most days revolve around the North Shore coast a short drive north. Camp Mokule‘ia fronts a long, quiet beach with shade from ironwood trees and reef snorkeling when the ocean is calm, and the adjacent Mokule‘ia Beach Park has picnic tables, restrooms, and kiteboarding conditions when trades are up. Dillingham Airfield sits directly across from the camp and hosts skydiving and glider operations over the coastline. Ka‘ena Point State Park, at the island's western tip, offers a coastal hike out to a seabird sanctuary where monk seals haul out and humpback whales pass offshore in winter. Haleiwa town, about 15 minutes from Camp Mokule‘ia, is the practical hub for shave ice, food trucks, groceries, and gas before heading back to a campsite.

Central Oahu has two loose seasons rather than four. Summer runs roughly May through October with warm, dry, trade-wind weather, and winter runs October through April with more frequent showers and larger North Shore swells. February and March are typically the coolest months, while August and September are the warmest. Camp Mokule‘ia allows vehicles at its sites and has cold-water sinks, a hot-water shower house, fire pits, and picnic tables. Roads narrow quickly once you leave the H-2 corridor around Wahiawa, and Farrington Highway out to Mokule‘ia is a two-lane coastal road. Cell service is patchy on the far North Shore, so download maps and gate instructions before leaving town. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and water shoes for reef entries, and secure food and trash against feral chickens and mongoose.
