Campgrounds and RV parks near Whitmore Village, HI

The North Shore is the main draw. From November through February, North Pacific groundswells light up Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach, and Banzai Pipeline, all within a 30-minute drive of Whitmore Village and prime spectator spots in winter. Lifeguards close many north-facing beaches to swimming on big-swell days. Summer flips the coast. Calm water at Sharks Cove and Three Tables makes for reliable snorkeling, and the reef fronting Camp Mokule‘ia offers protected swimming and turtle sightings. Inland, the Dole Plantation sits minutes from the village with a pineapple garden maze, train ride, and food stalls that work well for families. Hiking options include the Kealia Trail above Dillingham Airfield and shorter loops in the Waianae foothills.

Oahu has two seasons: a wet, cooler winter and a dry, warmer summer. Winter runs roughly November through March, brings the bulk of the rain, and delivers the big North Shore swells. The stretch of Kamehameha Highway along the North Shore that runs a mellow family beach scene all summer becomes the center of the surfing world from roughly November through February, when North Pacific storms send long-period groundswells to the reefs off Hale‘iwa, Sunset Beach, and Banzai Pipeline. That season closes many North Shore beaches to swimming and clogs the two-lane highway on swell days. Spring is a transitional shoulder with lighter rain and smaller surf. Summer, roughly May through September, brings the calmest ocean conditions on the north and west shores and the warmest inland temperatures. Trade winds usually keep afternoons comfortable. Fall combines warm water, moderate crowds, and the first winter swells arriving late in the season. Central Pacific hurricane season officially runs June through November, though direct strikes on Oahu are rare.

Oahu is not a traditional RV-camping destination. State park campgrounds in Hawaii are not set up for camping in vehicles including campers, vans, and trailers, and sleeping in vehicles in campground parking lots is not allowed. That rules out state parks for RV sleeping, so renters typically use private campgrounds, driveway-share arrangements, or day-use the beaches and return to a private site at night. At Camp Mokule‘ia, expect a rustic beachfront setting with showers, restrooms, picnic tables, and fire pits across about 37 campsites. Cell service is workable but not fast, groceries are in Hale‘iwa, and the nearest fuel is in Waialua or Wahiawa. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes for the reef, and secure any food against feral chickens and mongoose.
