Campgrounds and RV parks near Teton, ID

The St. Anthony Sand Dunes are the headline attraction close to town. The BLM-managed recreation area covers about 10,600 acres of white quartz sand with dunes reaching up to 400 feet, drawing ATV and UTV riders spring through fall. Sand Hills Resort sits on the eastern edge of the dunes with direct sand access, and off-road vehicle rentals are available in St. Anthony itself. Anglers use Teton as a base for the Henrys Fork of the Snake River, one of the best-known dry-fly fisheries in the West, with prime access at Harriman State Park in Island Park. Families often add day trips to Mesa Falls on the Henrys Fork Scenic Byway, Yellowstone Bear World south of Rexburg, and the drive over Teton Pass to Jackson. Grand Teton National Park's western approach through Ashton and Flagg Ranch is roughly two hours out and typically open midsummer through fall.

The camping season here is short and driven by elevation. Teton sits near 4,900 feet, and the Island Park plateau to the north climbs above 6,000 feet, so overnight temperatures can dip below freezing well into late May and again by mid-September. Most private RV parks in the area open around April and close by late October or early November. Summer, from mid-June through August, is the peak booking window. Sand dune weekends, Yellowstone traffic, and Grand Teton visitation combine to fill sites, and reservations at popular parks like Sand Hills Resort commonly sell out weeks ahead for holidays and organized dune events. Spring brings the wettest weather of the year, with May typically the wettest month, while fall offers cooler nights, fewer crowds, and strong fly-fishing on the Henrys Fork. Note that the western big-dune portion of the St. Anthony Sand Dunes is closed to motorized use from January 1 through sunrise on April 1 to protect wintering wildlife. Winter shuts down most RV parks. Harriman State Park stays open for Nordic skiing and yurt rentals, but standard hookup camping in the Teton area is not available until spring thaw.

The terrain around Teton is high desert farmland, flat to rolling, with irrigation canals, potato fields, and long open sightlines to the Tetons. Roads are generally easy for larger rigs, with paved access to all listed campgrounds and no significant mountain passes required to reach town. Cell service is reliable along the Highway 20 and Highway 33 corridors. Expect cool nights even in July, low humidity, and strong afternoon sun at altitude. Wind is common, particularly near the dunes at Sand Hills Resort, where sand tracks into rigs and awnings need to be watched. Wildfire smoke can affect visibility in August and September. Grocery, fuel, propane, and RV supply stops are available in Rexburg, Sugar City, and St. Anthony. Bear-aware practices are mainly needed on trips north into Island Park and the national parks, not at the valley-floor campgrounds themselves.
