Campgrounds and RV parks near Aledo, IL

Aledo sits in Mercer County in western Illinois, on high ground that drains toward the Mississippi River about 14 miles west at New Boston. The city is the county seat and lies roughly a half-hour south of the Quad Cities via Illinois Route 94. That location puts RV travelers within easy reach of both Illinois and Iowa public lands, plus a private resort in town. Haven Hills Campground & Resort is the closest option to Aledo itself. A short drive west and south along the Mississippi, Big River State Forest covers roughly 3,000 acres of pine plantation and river bottomland in Henderson County, with tent and trailer sites at the Shady Pines area. Across the river in Iowa, Fairport State Recreation Area and Wildcat Den State Park sit near Muscatine, and the Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday serves travelers who want full hookups closer to the metro. Combined, these five sites give travelers a mix of full-hookup private parks, riverfront electric sites, and rustic state-forest camping within about an hour of Aledo.

Reservation systems vary by park. Iowa state parks, including Wildcat Den State Park and Fairport State Recreation Area, use ReserveAmerica. Both campgrounds are 100 percent reservable, accept reservations up to 12 months in advance for electric sites, and take reservations until 10 p.m. Central the day of arrival between April 1 and October 31. A reservation is required. Illinois state land, including Big River State Forest, uses the Illinois DNR camping reservation portal at exploremoreil.com, and all campers must obtain a permit from the park office. Group sites of 25 or more need advance approval from the site manager. Haven Hills Campground & Resort and the Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday book directly through their own websites or the KOA reservation system. For summer weekends and holidays, secure private-park sites several months out and state-park electric sites as soon as the 12-month window opens.
