Campgrounds and RV parks near Beckemeyer, IL

Beckemeyer sits in Clinton County in southwestern Illinois, within a short drive of Carlyle Lake, the largest man-made lake in the state. The area serves RV travelers who want lakeside camping without long highway hauls, and it draws boaters, anglers, and families using the shoreline recreation areas managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The closest full-service state campground is Eldon Hazlet State Recreational Area, a 3,000-acre site on the western shore of Carlyle Lake with 328 Class A electric sites, a campground store, and a public swimming pool. About 30 miles south, Washington County State Recreation Area covers roughly 900 acres and offers two loops of interest to campers here: Shady Rest for RVs with electric hookups and Lonely Oaks for tent camping without hookups, set on a 248-acre lake near Nashville, Illinois. Private options in the surrounding rural counties include Cedarbrook Campground and Timber Trails Campground, which typically appeal to travelers looking for smaller, less crowded settings than the state parks.

Illinois state park campgrounds in this area are reserved through the state's ExploreMoreIL system, run by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Eldon Hazlet State Recreational Area takes reservations for its Class A electric sites through that system, with a minimum three-day advance booking, and a large first-come, first-served section is also available for travelers who want flexibility. At Washington County State Recreation Area, the Shady Rest loop offers electric RV sites and Lonely Oaks offers non-electric tent sites, both bookable through the same state system. Private parks such as Cedarbrook Campground and Timber Trails Campground handle reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For holiday weekends, reserve well ahead; for shoulder-season weekdays, walk-ups are usually workable.
