Campgrounds and RV parks near Cedarville, IL

The state park anchors most outdoor plans. Recreational opportunities include boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, cross-country skiing, sledding, hunting, and camping. The 40-acre lake provides fishing, boating, and a swimming beach along a wooded shoreline, with only electric motors allowed. A children's fishing pond and playground make it workable for families with younger kids. Beyond the park, Cedarville itself is known as the birthplace of Jane Addams, and the local Addams homestead is a short stop in the village. Freeport adds grocery runs, restaurants, and hardware for RV needs. Historic Galena lies about 35 miles west along US 20 and works as a full-day trip for shopping, river views, and downtown walking.

Peak RV season in this part of northwest Illinois runs from late May through early October. Summer brings warm days, green woodlands, and the fullest campground programming, but it is also the wettest stretch of the year, with June typically the rainiest month and thunderstorms common through July. Book state park sites well in advance for holiday weekends, when the campground fills quickly. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. At the state park, flush toilets and showers operate seasonally through the warmer months, and the equestrian campground and trails operate on a similar spring-to-late-fall window, weather permitting. Fall color typically peaks in mid-October across the Driftless ridges. Winter is cold and snowy, with January averaging well below freezing. The RV loops at Lake Le-Aqua-Na remain accessible in some form year-round, but the shower building and trailer dump station are shut down outside the warm-season window. Ice fishing, sledding, and cross-country skiing are popular winter attractions, though the park does not maintain snowmobile trails or facilities.

Terrain around Cedarville is rolling rather than flat. When entering the state park, expect some steep hills on the approach roads. The Hickory Hill loop is especially well-suited for RVs, with paved roads, a clean dump station, and electric hookups, though some sites are not perfectly level. Leveling blocks are worth packing. Private parks lean toward full hookups and structured amenities. Lena KOA typically offers a heated pool, lawn games such as corn hole, sand volleyball, and horseshoes, plus themed weekend activities in season. Amenities and event schedules vary by year, so check with the operator before arrival. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Freeport and Lena but can dip in the wooded valleys. Grocery, fuel, and propane are easiest to source in Freeport before heading to a site.
