Campgrounds and RV parks near Junction City, IL

Junction City sits in Marion County in south-central Illinois, roughly midway between St. Louis and Mount Vernon along the U.S. 50 corridor. RV travelers use it as a low-traffic base for the Carlyle Lake region, the Kaskaskia River valley, and the rolling farmland of Washington and Clinton counties. Campground options within a short drive span both private RV parks and Illinois Department of Natural Resources state sites. UcamP Express RV Park and Archway RV Park handle full-hookup rigs close to the interstate, while Cedarbrook Campground caters to travelers looking for a quieter tree-shaded stop. For state-park camping, Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area sits on the western shore of Carlyle Lake in Clinton County, about 3 miles north of Carlyle, and Shady Rest at Washington County State Recreation Area lies a short drive south near Nashville. The area is flat to gently rolling, which makes rig maneuvering straightforward. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the U.S. 50 and I-64 corridors and thins out closer to lake shorelines and wooded state-park interiors.

Illinois state-park campsites, cabins, group camps, and shelters are reserved online through the ExploreMoreIL website, which covers both Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area and Shady Rest at Washington County State Recreation Area. Sites can be booked up to 180 days in advance and must be reserved at least 3 days ahead, with a maximum stay of 14 nights in any 30-day period and a 2-night minimum on certain holidays. Popular lakefront and electric loops at Eldon Hazlet are typically the first to fill for summer holiday weekends. Private parks in the area, including UcamP Express RV Park, Archway RV Park, and Cedarbrook Campground, handle bookings directly by phone or through their own websites. For summer Friday and Saturday arrivals, reserving two to four weeks ahead is a safe target, while weeknights and shoulder-season stays are often available on shorter notice.
