Campgrounds and RV parks near Oblong, IL

Water recreation anchors most trips. The 40-acre lake at Red Hills State Park is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish, and electric motors only keep it quiet for anglers. Lincoln Trail State Park adds fishing, boating, and swimming on its own lake, plus wooded hiking such as the Beech Tree Trail that starts from the Lakeside area. Hiking, wildlife watching, and picnicking are easy day activities at both state parks, and Red Hills also supports horseback riding from its dedicated Horse Camp. Families basing at Casey KOA can tour the town of Casey's collection of Guinness-recognized oversized roadside attractions, including the world's largest wind chime and golf tee, and visit the nearby Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site.

The core camping season runs from spring through early fall. At Lincoln Trail State Park, shower buildings close by November 1 and reopen by May 1, with earlier closures or openings possible depending on weather. Casey KOA operates seasonally, generally from March 1 through October 31, with the swimming pool running from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Red Hills State Park welcomes visitors year round, though some services scale down after the warm season ends. Late spring brings wildflowers and green-up, summer is peak for swimming and boating, and fall foliage through the ravines is a well-known draw. Winter camping at Red Hills is possible for self-contained rigs, but shower access and full services at most nearby campgrounds are limited or unavailable during the cold months.

State-park campgrounds in this area are Class A: expect electric hookups, potable water, picnic tables, fire rings, showers, flush toilets, and a sanitary dump station. Red Hills has more than 100 sites with some 50-amp pull-throughs on gravel pads and can accommodate larger rigs up to about 60 feet on select sites. There are no sewer hookups at the sites themselves. Lincoln Trail's Plainview loop offers larger, more open sites with pull-throughs and the main shower house; Lakeside sits closer to the lake with smaller, more wooded sites and adds a Class C tent area. Casey KOA is a full-service private park with a mix of back-in and pull-through RV sites, 30 and 50 amp service, full hookups on many sites, laundry, WiFi, a seasonal pool, and playgrounds. Cell coverage at Red Hills is generally usable, though signal at Lincoln Trail can be weak. Leashed pets are welcome across these campgrounds.
