Campgrounds and RV parks near Red Bud, IL

Red Bud sits in Randolph County in southwestern Illinois, about a half-hour southeast of the St. Louis metro on Illinois Route 3. The area lines up along the Mississippi and Kaskaskia river bottoms, which shapes the camping options: a bluff-top state historic site, a lake-and-woods state recreation area, a very large public shooting-and-camping complex, and a couple of smaller local grounds. The closest option to town is Kaskaskia River Camping & RV Park. A short drive south, Fort Kaskaskia SHS offers bluff-top camping above the Mississippi River, and Rolling Hills - Randolph County State Recreation Area anchors a 1,101-acre park with a 65-acre lake northeast of Chester. Further east near Sparta, the World Shooting and Recreational Complex opens a very large campground with full-hookup and electric sites to the general public. American Legion Freedom Farm rounds out the nearby options. Most sites at the state areas are gravel with mature-tree shade, while the shooting complex has open, level paved pads. Big-rig turning is easiest at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex.

Illinois state-run sites use the ExploreMoreIL reservation system. Fort Kaskaskia SHS, the World Shooting and Recreational Complex, and Randolph County SRA all reserve through that platform, and first-time users need to set up an account with a valid email before booking. Payments are cashless, with a debit or credit card or eCheck. Fort Kaskaskia uses a zero-day reservation window, meaning campers must make a reservation before setting up a site; on-arrival payment is not accepted for reserved sites. The World Shooting and Recreational Complex accepts reservations up to 180 days ahead and requires them at least three days before arrival. Some sites at both Fort Kaskaskia and Randolph County SRA remain first-come, first-served. Privately operated grounds like Kaskaskia River Camping & RV Park and American Legion Freedom Farm are booked directly with the operator.
