RV camping near Robinson, Illinois
Robinson sits in Crawford County in southeastern Illinois, within a short drive of two Illinois state parks with developed campgrounds. Lincoln Trail State Park, about 30 minutes north near Marshall, is a 1,023-acre park built around the 146-acre Lincoln Trail Lake, with two campgrounds: Plainview and Lakeside. Red Hills State Park, roughly 30 minutes south between Olney and Lawrenceville on U.S. 50, covers 967 acres of high wooded hills, deep ravines, meadows, and year-round springs, and includes a separate equestrian campground for riders traveling with horses.
Options in the region range from full-hookup private parks to state-park Class A sites with electric. New Vision RV Park LLC serves travelers who want a straightforward, in-town base near Robinson. Hickory Holler Campground, in nearby West York, is a private campground with 30- and 50-amp service.
The area suits families and RV renters who want quiet, wooded sites, freshwater fishing, and easy interstate access via I-70 to the north. Terrain is gently rolling farmland and hardwood forest, and most park roads are paved and big-rig friendly.
Things to do around Robinson
Water activities anchor most trips. Lincoln Trail Lake allows boating with outboard motors limited to 10 horsepower, plus fishing, and boat and seasonal dock rentals are available. Red Hills Lake is a 40-acre lake ideal for fishing and boating, well suited to canoes, kayaks, and small boats.
On land, Red Hills has eight miles of scenic trails of moderate difficulty, with Indian Treaty, Robin, Valley Springs, and Tulip loops overlapping on the hilly north side of U.S. 50 for about three miles, plus a five-mile trail for horseback riding and bicycling when soil conditions permit. A local Saddle Club hosts horse shows once a month from April to October at the Red Hills Arena. Lincoln Trail has hiking trails through an American Beech woods known for spring wildflowers, plus an on-site restaurant and concession stand.
In town, Robinson has parks, restaurants, and everyday resupply for longer stays.

64° / 43°F 110 mmWettest months; wildflowers bloom, low sites may pond.

June - August
84° / 64°F 100 mmWarm, humid; peak bookings, reserve weekends early.

68° / 45°F 80 mmCool nights, hardwood color; lighter crowds after October.
- winter
December - February
41° / 23°F 65 mmCold, driest season; Lincoln Trail showers closed until May.
Peak camping season runs April through October, when both state parks and most private campgrounds are fully staffed and lake facilities are open. Late spring brings wildflowers and mild temperatures but also the wettest weeks of the year, and low sites at Lincoln Trail can hold water after heavy rain, so site selection matters.
Summer is warm and humid, with afternoon highs typically in the mid-80s and occasional thunderstorms. This is the busiest window for weekends and holidays at Lincoln Trail and Red Hills, and reservations are recommended, especially for holiday weekends. Fall brings hardwood color through October and cooler nights, with fewer bugs and lighter crowds.
Winter camping is possible, and both state parks welcome visitors year round, though the shower buildings at Lincoln Trail are closed by November 1 and reopen May 1, with dates weather-dependent. Ice fishing and other cold-weather activities are typical at Red Hills, which welcomes visitors year round.
How to book a campsite near Robinson
Illinois state park campsites at Lincoln Trail State Park and Red Hills State Park are reserved through ExploreMoreIL, and all campers must obtain camping permits before entering the campground. Permits are issued at the park office or entrance station on arrival.
Book summer weekends and holiday stays well in advance, since Plainview at Lincoln Trail and the Class A loops at Red Hills fill quickly. A Class C equestrian campground is available at Red Hills and should be reserved through the same system if traveling with horses.
Private parks such as Hickory Holler Campground and New Vision RV Park LLC handle reservations directly through their websites or by phone, and often accept longer seasonal stays.
What to expect on arrival
Lincoln Trail State Park has two distinct camping areas, one more open with cleared sites and another that is more wooded and secluded: Plainview is generally preferred for RVs, and Lakeside is more wooded. Both areas offer electricity, showers, tables, fireblocks, playground equipment, water, toilet facilities, and a sanitary dumping station. Interior roads are wide and paved.
Red Hills provides more than 100 Class A campsites with electricity, a sanitary dump station, water, and access to a modern handicapped-accessible building with showers and flush toilets, and some sites are pull-through with 50 amp service. A restaurant on-site overlooks the lake.
Cell coverage is generally usable but can be spotty in wooded loops. Bring firewood from local vendors to comply with Illinois firewood guidance.

dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.lincolntrail.htmlWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Robinson, IL?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Robinson, IL. Illinois does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers listed on RVezy. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy will verify your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. Once you book, your host will walk you through the rig at pickup, so you will feel comfortable behind the wheel before you ever hit Route 33.
ilsos.gov/departments/drivers/drivers_license/home.htmlIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included in Robinson, IL?
Yes, and that is one of the best parts of booking through RVezy. Every RV rental in Robinson, IL includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the back roads of Crawford County with peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level at checkout rather than leaving it up to the host. Review the full coverage details on the RVezy insurance and protection page before you book.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy for an RV rental in Robinson, IL?

You get a money-back grace period right after booking, and additional refund options depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy will help rebook you or issue a refund or travel credit. If severe Midwest weather like a tornado watch or ice storm rolls through Crawford County, reach out to RVezy support right away. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Robinson?
Absolutely, dogs are welcome on plenty of trips. Many hosts on RVezy offer pet-friendly RV rental in Robinson, IL, and you can filter listings by the Pet-Friendly tag to see them instantly. Once you find a rig you like, message the host to confirm pet fees and any breed or size notes. Crawford County is a great place to travel with a pup: Lincoln Trail State Park allows leashed dogs on its hiking trails and most campsites, and Robinson City Park has wide open green space for stretching legs. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl since summer humidity in southern Illinois can climb into the 90s.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Robinson, IL?
Yes, RV delivery in Robinson is a popular option, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to Lincoln Trail State Park, Crawford County State Fish and Wildlife Area, a private campground, or even a private property, then level it, hook up power and water, and give you a full walkthrough. You drive your own car while they handle the RV. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location, so closer drop-offs cost less. This is ideal for travel trailers and fifth wheels where towing might feel intimidating. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy and message the host to confirm your destination.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Robinson%2C%20IllinoisHow many miles per day do I get with my Robinson RV rental?
You have flexibility here. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with most Robinson-area listings including 100 to 150 free miles per night and a small per-mile fee after that. To put that in perspective, it is about 16 miles round trip to Lincoln Trail State Park, around 90 miles round trip to Turkey Run State Park in Indiana, and about 440 miles round trip to St. Louis. Pro tip: estimate your driving before booking and message the host if you need extra miles, since many will bundle additional mileage into the daily rate at a discount.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Robinson%2C%20IllinoisWhere are the best campgrounds near Robinson, IL?

The top pick is Lincoln Trail State Park, about 8 miles south near Marshall, with a 146-acre lake, electric hookups, hot showers, and oak-hickory forest. Crawford County State Fish and Wildlife Area, north near Hutsonville, offers more rustic sites and excellent fishing. Red Hills State Park, about 20 miles south near Sumner, has a swimming beach and a 40-acre lake with electric campsites. Sam Parr State Park near Newton is another quieter option to the west. Pro tip: Lincoln Trail's lakeside loops fill up fast on summer weekends, so reserve early through the Illinois DNR Camping system at ExploreMoreIL.
camp.exploremoreil.com/When is the best time to visit Robinson, IL in an RV?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Robinson, with the absolute best windows being May, June, September, and early October. Spring temperatures average 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit with wildflowers blooming at Lincoln Trail State Park, while early fall delivers crisp mornings, low humidity, and brilliant oak-hickory foliage. July and August get hot and humid (highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with thunderstorms), so make sure your rig has working air conditioning. Winter rentals are possible for hardy travelers, but most local campgrounds close hookups from November through March. Pro tip: time your trip to mid-September for the Crawford County Fair festivities and golden harvest scenery.
weather.gov/pah/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You are going to do great. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially in a small town like Robinson where traffic is light and the roads are flat and open. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking through driving, leveling, hookups, the propane system, the bathroom, and the slide-outs. You will leave with their cell number and can text anytime during the trip. If you would rather skip the driving learning curve entirely, book a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer or Class C motorhome under 25 feet for your first trip, then graduate to bigger rigs once you are hooked.

Go about 110 miles south to Shawnee National Forest and the famous Garden of the Gods rock formations. Or loop north roughly 130 miles to Indianapolis for the Motor Speedway and White River State Park. fs.usda.gov/shawneeHow much should I budget for fuel?
Fuel is one of the biggest trip costs, but Robinson is a relatively cheap place to gas up. Crawford County typically has fuel prices a bit below the Illinois average thanks to the Marathon Petroleum refinery right in town. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a Class B campervan 16 to 20 mpg, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer 10 to 14 mpg. For a 300-mile weekend loop through Lincoln Trail State Park and into Indiana, budget roughly $90 to $140 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: top off at the Casey's or Circle K on West Main Street in Robinson before heading into smaller towns where prices climb.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
For peak summer weekends, aim to book 2 to 3 months ahead, especially at Lincoln Trail State Park, which is the most popular spot near Robinson. Illinois state park campgrounds use the Reserve America-powered Illinois DNR Camping reservation system, and sites open in a rolling 6-month window. Weekdays and shoulder season (May, September, October) are much easier and you can often grab a site a week out. Private parks like Hickory Hollar and Reno's RV Park usually have more availability and accept phone reservations. Pro tip: if Lincoln Trail is full, try Red Hills State Park 20 miles south or Sam Parr State Park 30 miles west, both with quieter mid-summer availability.
camp.exploremoreil.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Robinson?
Driving an RV around Robinson is refreshingly easy. The terrain is gently rolling farmland with wide two-lane highways like IL Route 33 and IL Route 1, minimal traffic, and almost no steep grades or tight switchbacks. The biggest things to watch for are slow-moving farm equipment in spring and fall, deer at dawn and dusk (especially along county roads near Crawford County State Fish and Wildlife Area), and the occasional summer thunderstorm with strong crosswinds. Winter can bring icy patches from December through February. Pro tip: avoid the narrow downtown streets near the Heath Candy Bar Museum with bigger Class A rigs; park at Robinson City Park instead and walk the few blocks to attractions.
gettingaroundillinois.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Robinson, IL?
Local campgrounds offer solid amenities for a comfortable Robinson RV trip. Lincoln Trail State Park has electric hookups, a dump station, potable water fill, hot showers, flush toilets, a swimming beach, and hiking trails around the 146-acre lake. Crawford County State Fish and Wildlife Area is more rustic, with limited services and a focus on fishing access. Red Hills State Park has electric sites, showers, and a swimming beach. Many private RV parks in the region offer full hookups (water, sewer, electric) and Wi-Fi. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving the campground since potable water spigots are spaced out across rural Crawford County.

dnr.illinois.gov/parks.htmlHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Robinson RV rental?
