Campgrounds and RV parks near Wilsonville, IL

Wilsonville sits in Macoupin County in west-central Illinois, roughly an hour northeast of St. Louis and a short drive from Carlinville. The area is rural and wooded in patches, with rolling farmland, small lakes, and quiet county roads that suit RV travel without heavy traffic. Campground options within a manageable drive include Lazy Days Campground and Rustic Acres Campgrounds for private-park stays, plus Country Bend Campground and Kamper Kompanion RV Park for hookups and family amenities. The nearest state-run option is Beaver Dam State Park, located about seven miles south of Carlinville on 750 acres in central Macoupin County, with oak and hickory woodland surrounding a lake. Between the private RV parks and the state park, travelers can pick between full-service sites with pools and laundry, or shaded electric-only sites near the water. Most parks in the area cater to weekend fishing, family reunions, and travelers passing through on the Route 66 corridor.

Beaver Dam State Park uses the Illinois Department of Natural Resources reservation system through the ExploreMoreIL website, which handles all IDNR-hosted camping, cabins, group camps, and shelters. The trailer camping area has 40 reservable sites with the remainder first-come, first-served, and a rent-a-cabin next to the shower house is also bookable through the same system. Campsites can be reserved for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period, and reservations must be made three days before the site is needed. Private parks such as Lazy Days Campground, Rustic Acres Campgrounds, Country Bend Campground, and Kamper Kompanion RV Park handle bookings directly by phone or through their own websites. For summer weekends and holidays, reserve as far ahead as possible, and watch for cancellations closer to the date if sites show sold out.
