Campgrounds and RV parks near Cannelton, IN

Water recreation dominates the area. The Ohio River supports boating and fishing from ramps at Horseshoe Bend RV Campground and Boat Ramp, while Patoka Lake State Reservoir covers roughly 8,800 acres and offers boating, swimming, and fishing, plus a marina at Newton-Stewart SRA. Holiday World and Splashin' Safari draw families to Santa Claus, minutes from Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph, which sits directly next door to the theme park. Lincoln State Park Campground puts hikers on ten miles of trails, the Sarah Lincoln Woods Nature Preserve, and the Colonel Jones Home, with Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial directly across the road. Hoosier National Forest sits north of town for hiking, mountain biking, and quiet lake fishing at spots such as Tipsaw and Celina.

The main camping season across southern Indiana runs from April through October, when weather is warm and most developed campgrounds are fully staffed. Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph runs a seasonal calendar from late April into the end of October, with Halloween weekends spanning September and October and a Santa Claus Land of Lights drive-through event on select weekends from late November through late December. State park properties including Lincoln State Park Campground and Patoka Lake State Reservoir at Newton-Stewart SRA are open year-round, though water hookups, beaches, boat rentals, and some restrooms shut down after the summer season. Lake Lincoln was drained for dam repairs, and the swimming beach and boat rental are expected to remain closed while the lake refills. Blue-green algae is present in regional lakes year-round, so check current advisories before swimming. Summer weekends and holidays fill fastest at all developed campgrounds. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and thinner crowds.

Amenity levels vary widely. Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph offers full-hookup RV sites, cabins, a waterpark, pool, mini golf, and camp store. Lincoln State Park Campground and Patoka Lake sites are typically electric with water available on individual sites seasonally, plus dump stations, picnic tables, and fire rings. A tree-removal project at Lincoln has left much of the electric campground with limited shade. Horseshoe Bend RV Campground and Boat Ramp has full-hookup sites on the river with minimal on-site amenities. Cell service is inconsistent across the region, especially inside Hoosier National Forest and along the Ohio River. Ticks and mosquitoes are active spring through fall, and summer temperatures often reach the mid-80s with high humidity. Some sites sit on a slight grade, so bring leveling blocks.
