Peak season across southern Indiana runs from Memorial Day through late October. Starve-Hollow's Forest Education Center operates from Memorial Day Weekend through the end of October, and the property's rent-a-camp cabins are seasonal, with the modern campground busiest in the summer months. Hardy Lake's Shale Bluff and Wooser - Hardy Lake State Park campgrounds are both open year-round, with electric hookups at every Shale Bluff site. Peak amenities run roughly mid-May through mid-October, with reduced services in winter and water typically shut off from November into spring at Indiana state properties. Summers are hot and humid, spring brings the wettest weather with May typically the rainiest month, and fall delivers cooler nights and hardwood color through October. Blue-green algae is present year-round in the state lakes, so DNR advises against drinking lake water and recommends showering after swimming. Reservations at both state properties can be made up to six months in advance.

Shale Bluff at Hardy Lake offers roughly 150 electric sites on gravel pads with fire rings and picnic tables, plus a bath house with hot showers and a dump station. Wooser - Hardy Lake State Park adds primitive lakefront sites with a pit toilet and water pump. The park sits about 15 minutes from I-65 on paved roads. Starve-Hollow offers 90 electric sites, some directly on the lakeshore, plus 55 full-hookup sites and multiple rent-a-camp cabins. Firewood is sold on site, and concessions run weekends at the boat rental facility during the summer season. Scottsburg/Raintree Lake KOA is set up for larger rigs with pull-through sites and standard KOA amenities. Expect ticks in wooded areas, plan for humid summer afternoons with pop-up thunderstorms, and note that the Hardy Lake marina no longer sells fuel.
