Campgrounds and RV parks near Fort Branch, IN

Beall Woods State Park contains stands of timber with trees ranging up to 120 feet tall, along with a stocked lake where electric trolley motors are permitted on boats and a well-marked trail network. The park is a strong pick for birders and families teaching kids about native trees and wildlife. John James Audubon State Park is located near the front entrance of the park, providing easy access to the park's hiking trails, museum, and nature center, and the grounds include a lake and a golf course along the Ohio River. Closer to Fort Branch, day trips to Holiday World, Mesker Park Zoo, and Angel Mounds State Historic Site are all within easy driving range.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the Fort Branch area. April and May bring wildflowers and leaf-out in the Wabash and Ohio river forests, along with the wettest stretch of the year. The John James Audubon campground season runs March 15 to November 10, so travelers hoping to stay inside that park should plan accordingly. Summer is warm and humid, with July average daytime temperatures rising to near 89 degrees and elevated mugginess from July into August. Sites at private parks like Weather Rock Camp Ground and event-tied weekends at Vanderburgh 4-H Center can fill quickly around Evansville festivals, so book early for peak weekends. Winter brings cold snaps and occasional snow. Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources at their campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible, and the parks advise contacting the campground directly for available resources when traveling during those months. Travelers arriving in the shoulder seasons should call ahead to confirm hookups are on.

Expect a mix of full-hookup private RV parks and more basic state-park loops. Weather Rock offers water, electric, fifty-amp, sewer, wifi, a pool, dump station, laundry, showers, and a playground, though reviewers describe it as a bit rundown, with many longer-term residents, but quiet and safe. Vanderburgh 4-H Center is straightforward event-grounds camping with full hookups, a dump station, and clean bathhouse facilities. Beall Woods runs lean: amenities include drinking water, picnic tables, a dump station, and cell service, the campground is ADA accessible and allows pets, and pit toilets are the only restroom option on site. Bug spray is worth packing in warmer months. John James Audubon has standard campsites with a clean bathhouse, primitive camping is also available, and the campground sits near the front entrance with easy access to the trails, museum, and nature center.
