Campgrounds and RV parks near French Lick, IN

French Lick sits in the wooded hills of Orange County in southern Indiana, within easy driving distance of the Hoosier National Forest and the Patoka Lake reservoir. RV travelers use the town as a base for the West Baden Springs historic hotel district, the French Lick Scenic Railway, and a cluster of state-managed recreation areas that dominate the surrounding landscape. Campground options range from private full-hookup parks to state-run sites on the lake. Sleeping Bear Retreat, Painter Creek RV Park, and Patoka Pines RV Campground & Storage sit closest to the resort corridor and cater to shorter stays and event weekends. Patoka Lake State Reservoir, part of the Newton-Stewart State Recreation Area operated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, offers the largest inventory of sites and direct water access. For travelers routing in from the west along I-74, Galesburg East/Knoxville KOA in western Illinois functions as a common overnight stop before the final push into the French Lick area.

Patoka Lake sites are reserved through the Indiana State Parks reservation system, run by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, which opens bookings up to six months in advance of the arrival date. Holiday weekends and lakefront electric sites are the first to go, so setting a reminder for the six-month mark is standard practice. Private parks near French Lick, including Sleeping Bear Retreat, Painter Creek RV Park, and Patoka Pines RV Campground & Storage, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Minimum stays of two or three nights are common on weekends between May and September. Galesburg East/Knoxville KOA uses the standard KOA reservation portal and is a reliable option for through-travelers who want to lock in a site without a long lead time.
