Campgrounds and RV parks near Hamlet, IN

Water activity anchors most trips. Worster Lake at Potato Creek supports paddling, fishing, and an ADA-accessible swim beach, and the Tippecanoe River is a well-known Midwest paddling and smallmouth bass river, best explored by canoe or kayak from the state park's river access. On land, Potato Creek maintains a 7.4-mile beginner-friendly mountain-bike trail developed with the Northern Indiana Mountain Bike Association, plus a paved bike path and several hiking loops. Tippecanoe River State Park carries more than 20 miles of trails rated easy to moderate, plus a 90-foot WPA-era fire tower that opens up long views over the sand hills and river corridor. Day trips reach South Bend and the University of Notre Dame in about 40 minutes.

Camping demand runs highest from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Summer weekends and holidays at Potato Creek and Tippecanoe River fill quickly, and Indiana DNR standard campsites can be reserved up to six months in advance, so booking early matters. July is the warmest month, with average highs around 82°F, and shade or lake access is worth targeting. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. Mid-winter through early spring is the wettest stretch of the year in the region, while autumn is the driest and often the most comfortable for RV travel, with fall color typically peaking in October. Both Potato Creek State Park and Tippecanoe River State Park are open year round, though facilities scale back in winter and most private campgrounds in the region close between late fall and early spring. Snowfall averages about 64 inches per year at nearby South Bend, and January is the most likely month for heavy snow.

State-park campgrounds in this part of Indiana are typically electric-only, without individual water or sewer hookups; a central dump station and water fill station are provided. Tippecanoe River State Park's main electric campground has 112 sites in a wooded setting, with modern comfort stations that include flush toilets and hot showers. At Potato Creek, the 287-site main campground is arranged in loops around shared shower houses, and campers should plan to arrive stocked since the drive from the park entrance to the campground office adds time to supply runs. Wetlands throughout the park produce heavy mosquito activity, especially after rain, and cell service can be spotty. Quiet hours run from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., generators are restricted to daytime, and pets must be leashed within six feet. Alcohol rules follow Indiana DNR policy: possession by anyone under 21 is prohibited, and consumption is not allowed at beaches or youth camps.
