The region has a humid-subtropical climate with a long RV season. According to Köppen and Geiger, this climate is classified as Cfa. The average temperature in Evansville is 14.5 °C, and the annual precipitation is approximately 1206 mm. Spring brings the wettest weather and strongest storms, with severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes possible from March through May. Summer is peak family season and pairs with school breaks, Holiday World crowds, and warm nights good for lake swimming. Reservations at state park sites and popular private resorts often fill weekends well in advance during June, July, and August. Fall is often the best trade-off for RV travelers, with cooler nights, thinning bugs, and lower precipitation. Winter is mild by Midwest standards but can bring ice storms, and several private parks scale back to limited operations. Windy Hollow Campground is open April 1st through October 31st, with year-round campsites available upon request.

Sites in the area range from full-hookup resort pads to electric-only state park loops. Diamond Lake Resort Campground accommodates all camping styles with pull-through RV sites featuring 30-amp and 50-amp hookups, full water, electrical, and sewer connections, and designated tent areas. At Lincoln State Park Campground, sites are electric with water at each site and no pull-throughs, so renters should verify site length before booking a loop built in the CCC era. There are 150 electric sites with 30 and 50 Amp sites with water at each site, 6 handicap sites, and no pull through sites. Windy Hollow Campground RV Park has 170 sites and a 22-foot maximum RV length, and is open April 1 through October 31. Bring a long water hose since several nearby campgrounds have spigots set back from the pad. Expect wooded, partly shaded sites, ticks and mosquitoes in warm months, and generally strong cell coverage close to I-64 and I-69.
