Campgrounds and RV parks near Owensville, IN

Hiking, fishing, and river drives anchor most trips. Beall Woods State Park protects one of the few remaining tracts of virgin timber east of the Mississippi, with trees reaching 120 feet tall and more than 3 feet in diameter, and the campground sits near a stocked 15-acre lake where electric trolling motors are permitted on boats, making it a workable base for anglers and paddlers. Five established trails, from the 1-mile Tuliptree loop to longer routes through the old-growth forest, give kids and adults an easy introduction to big-tree country. At the KOA, amenities include a playground, a 27-hole miniature golf course, a mechanical shooting gallery, an on-site restaurant and bar, an ice cream parlor, a horseshoe pit, and a rentable dance hall and pavilion. Day trips run to historic New Harmony and to Evansville along the Ohio River.

Spring brings warming temperatures, wildflowers under the Beall Woods canopy, and the region's wettest stretch, with April and May normally the rainiest months and occasional Wabash River flooding along low-lying bottomland roads. Expect muddy trails after storms, and bookings at the KOA and county parks are still relatively easy to secure on weekdays. Summer is the peak season. Weekends fill first at the KOA and at Vanderburgh 4-H Center when it hosts events, and hot, humid weather with highs near 90°F is standard. Reviewers frequently flag insects as an issue at Beall Woods during warmer months, so bug spray is worth packing regardless of season. Fall delivers the most comfortable RV weather, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color through October along the Wabash bottomlands. Winter camping is possible but limited. The Grayville KOA is open year round, while state park facilities operate at reduced service and small private grounds may close or restrict hookups during hard freezes.

Site quality varies sharply across this cluster. At the KOA, all sites are level, nearly 100 feet long, with 50/30/20 amp service and full water and sewer hookups, the 10 deluxe cabins include a full bathroom, bedroom, and living room, and the bathhouse has 5 family-style bathrooms and a large laundry room. That makes it the easiest fit for larger rental rigs with slide-outs. Beall Woods is the opposite experience. Amenities include drinking water, picnic tables, a dump station, and cell service, and the campground is ADA accessible and allows pets, but pit toilets are the only restroom option on site and only a couple of pull-through sites are large enough for most RVs. Miles Landing offers full RV hookups with 30/50 amp service alongside primitive electric sites. Weekday nights tend to be quiet across the area, and cell coverage is patchier in river bottomlands, so download maps before leaving pavement.
