Campgrounds and RV parks near Patoka, IN

Outdoor activity is concentrated around the rivers, reservoirs, and state parks flanking the region. The campground at Beall Woods sits near a small lake stocked for fishing, and the park's trail system winds through some of the largest hardwoods in Illinois, with trees reaching 120 feet tall and over three feet in diameter. Red Hills State Park adds fishing, boating with electric motors, hiking, and horseback riding on dedicated equestrian trails. The park's loops on the north side of U.S. 50 cover a few miles of moderate walking, with additional multi-use trail open to horses and bikes when soil conditions permit. Closer to town, Miles Landing Campground and Weather Rock Camp Ground work as bases for day trips to Evansville attractions, the Ohio River, and Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana.

Peak camping runs from late spring through early fall, with the busiest weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Miles Landing Campground operates on a seasonal schedule from spring through late fall, which is typical for smaller private parks in the area. Weather Rock Camp Ground and Beall Woods list broader availability, though winter services are limited. Spring is the wettest stretch, with April and May bringing frequent thunderstorms across southern Indiana and southeastern Illinois. Summer air can feel uncomfortably humid in July and August, and travelers should plan for heat management and afternoon storms. Water at some state park campgrounds is turned off in the coldest weeks, and hookups may be reduced. Fall is the shoulder favorite, with cooler nights, fewer bugs, and river-valley color. Red Hills splits its camping calendar into a spring and summer season and a fall and winter season, so amenity levels vary by time of year.

Site standards vary widely between private parks and state campgrounds. Miles Landing Campground offers full RV hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, primitive electric sites, a shower house, dump station, and picnic areas, which is a comfortable setup for families new to RV travel. At Illinois state parks, expect more rustic conditions. Red Hills has around 100 campsites for tents and RVs with electric hookups, picnic tables, grills, gravel pads, toilets, and showers. Sites offer water access but no sewer hookups, a dump station is on site, and wooded sites can accommodate larger rigs. Sites at Beall Woods are rustic, without electric or water hookups, and only a few of the first-come, first-served sites are large enough for most RVs. Cell service is generally reliable near Patoka and the interstate corridors and can be spotty in wooded state park loops.
