Campgrounds and RV parks near Scottsburg, IN

Water recreation drives most trips. Hardy Lake is one of the few Indiana state reservoirs that allows water skiing, and it also supports bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and striped bass fishing along with a swimming beach that uses mobility mats for accessibility. Raintree Lake at the KOA is limited to non-motorized and small non-gas boats, with catch-and-release fishing only. On land, Deam Lake serves as a trailhead for the Knobstone Trail, Indiana's longest hiking trail, and connects to roughly 80 miles of multipurpose trails in adjacent Clark State Forest. Hardy Lake is home to the Dwight Chamberlain Raptor Center, which focuses on educational programming about Indiana's hawks, owls, falcons, and vultures. Historic Madison on the Ohio River and downtown Louisville are both within an easy day-trip drive.

Southern Indiana runs a humid continental climate with hot summers, cold winters, and precipitation spread through the year with a modest spring peak. The prime RV window is roughly late April through October, when state-park beaches, boat rentals, and full amenities are open. Hardy Lake's campgrounds are listed as open year-round, with peak reservation season generally running mid-May through mid-November and reduced-amenity walk-in camping from November into early March. Deam Lake's family and equestrian campgrounds close each year from the Sunday before Thanksgiving to March 1, so winter trips there are not possible, though walk-ins may be permitted in March and November as weather allows. At Deam Lake, rowboat and kayak rentals run on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the swimming beach follows a similar holiday-to-holiday window. The KOA operates on its own calendar and often keeps sites available outside the state-park season, which can make Scottsburg a useful cold-weather stop along the I-65 corridor.

Shale Bluff at Hardy Lake offers electric sites with fire rings and picnic tables, a bath house with showers, and a dump station. The Wooster loop is primitive with a small number of sites, a vault toilet, and a water pump. Blue-green algae is present in Hardy Lake year-round, so visitors should avoid drinking lake water and shower after swimming. Deam Lake's family campground has electric sites with modern restrooms and showers, and the equestrian loops add hitching posts and rentable stalls, with campers providing their own bedding. Indiana state properties charge a daily vehicle entrance fee that differs for in-state and out-of-state plates. Scottsburg/Raintree Lake KOA runs full-hookup RV sites, cabins, a pool, mini golf, a dog park, and a camp store. Pets are welcome, with a designated off-leash area on the grounds.
