Campgrounds and RV parks near Sunman, IN

Versailles State Park anchors most trip itineraries. The park has a 230-acre lake where visitors can rent a rowboat, kayak or canoe, along with hiking trails and mountain bike trails. Swimming is not allowed in Versailles Lake, but a 25-meter pool is available. Numerous fossils tell the story of an ancient sea that covered the region, making fossil spotting a popular draw. Brookville Lake, near Franklin County Park, adds boating, fishing, beaches, and swimming, plus canoe liveries on the Whitewater River. History travelers can visit the Metamora canal town and Civil War sites tied to Morgan's Raiders, who made their way through the area. At Batesville KOA Journey, on-site recreation typically includes swimming pools, a fishing pond, and family-oriented amenities.

The prime RV season in southeastern Indiana runs from late April through October, with the most comfortable weather typically falling between May and mid-October. Summers are long, warm, and humid, and the warmest month is typically July. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill fastest at both state park loops and the Batesville KOA, so booking well ahead is important. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color across the rolling hills. The town of Versailles hosts the Versailles Pumpkin Show on the last weekend in September and a Bluegrass Festival on the first weekend of October, and the park hosts Halloween festivities the last weekend in October. Winters are cold and can be snowy, with snow possible from December through March. Versailles State Park is open year round, though seasonal services like boat rentals and the swimming pool close outside the warm months. Private campgrounds may reduce hours or amenities in the off-season.

Expect rolling wooded terrain, gravel and paved pads, and generally quiet, family-oriented campgrounds. At Versailles State Park, loops vary in size and layout, with some offering more tree cover and privacy while others have larger paved pads that suit bigger rigs. Hookup availability varies by campground. The state park offers electric sites with access to modern restrooms and shower facilities, along with non-electric sites for a more traditional experience, and dump stations are typically available for RV campers. Batesville KOA offers water and electric with some full-hookup sites and pull-throughs suited to larger RVs. Cell coverage is generally usable on major carriers in the Batesville and Brookville corridor. Bring bug repellent in summer, and expect humid nights.
