Campgrounds and RV parks near Tell City, IN

Water activities dominate the region. Lake Lincoln allows electric motors only, and the state park normally runs boat rentals and a swim beach in season, though the beach and rentals have been closed while the lake refills after dam repairs. Patoka Lake supports larger boats, wildlife watching, and open-water fishing. Hiking and history sit close together. Lincoln State Park has around 10 miles of trails through rolling forested hills, and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is directly across from the state park with a living historical farm. Hoosier National Forest adds primitive trails, dispersed camping, and horseback routes. For families, Holiday World and Splashin' Safari in nearby Santa Claus is the main paid attraction and pairs well with a stay at Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph.

Peak camping season runs from late spring through early fall. Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends fill first at Indiana DNR campgrounds and at Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph, which draws Holiday World traffic. Book electric sites at Lincoln State Park and Patoka Lake State Reservoir several months ahead for summer weekends. Shoulder seasons trade crowds for cooler nights. Spring brings wildflowers and higher water levels but also the region's wettest stretch, so expect muddy trails. Fall delivers reliable color across the Hoosier National Forest, typically peaking in mid to late October. Winter camping is limited. Indiana state parks reduce amenities from November through April, turning off water at most sites, closing modern restrooms, and winterizing full-hookup connections. Camping is still offered at a reduced rate, and self-contained rigs can generally access electric loops year round.

Expect wooded, rolling terrain rather than open prairie. State-park loops are shaded in most areas, though an ongoing tree-removal project at Lincoln State Park has opened parts of the electric loop to full sun. Some sites run a little unlevel, so bring leveling blocks. Cell coverage is spotty inside the Hoosier National Forest. Hookups vary widely by property. Lincoln State Park Campground offers around 150 electric sites with a mix of 30 and 50 amp service, water at each site, and two dump stations. Primitive loops and national forest areas have vault toilets and no potable water. Wildlife is active. Deer, wild turkey, and raccoons are common around campsites, so store food securely and use provided fire rings.
