Campgrounds near Vincennes, Indiana
Vincennes sits on the Wabash River in southwest Indiana, roughly 50 miles north of Evansville and about 120 miles southwest of Indianapolis. The Wabash River forms the boundary between Indiana and Illinois at this point, so RV travelers have access to campgrounds in two states, from private RV parks in town to state park campgrounds across the river in Illinois.
Close-in options include New Vision RV Park LLC and Hillbilly Acres Campground LLC for full-hookup stays near the city. Public land options are within an hour's drive: Beall Woods State Park is a 635-acre state park along the Wabash River near Mount Carmel, Illinois, preserving one of the last tracts of virgin timber east of the Mississippi. Red Hills State Park in Lawrence County, Illinois, covers 967 acres of wooded hills, ravines, meadows, and year-round springs, midway between Olney and Lawrenceville on U.S. 50.
To the north, Sullivan County Park & Lake offers larger-scale RV camping around a 461-acre Indiana lake, while the Horse Camp at Red Hills State Park serves equestrian travelers with dedicated trail access.
Things to do around Vincennes
History drives much of the visit. George Rogers Clark National Historical Park features a granite memorial commemorating the conquest of the Old Northwest Territory and sits on the site of the former British Fort Sackville, captured in February 1779. Grouseland (the William Henry Harrison Mansion), the Indiana Military Museum, and the Red Skelton Museum are all in town.
For water and trail time, the 461-acre lake at Sullivan County Park & Lake is stocked with hybrid saugeye, walleye, and bluegill. Red Hills has a paved road circling its 40-acre lake for bank fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, and bluegill, plus a boat launch limited to electric motors.
Beall Woods draws hikers who want to walk under old-growth hardwoods, some more than 120 feet tall, along trails near the Wabash.

The prime RV window runs late April through October. Red Hills State Park welcomes visitors year-round, with the warm months being busiest. Summer brings warm, humid weather and peak site demand at both public parks and private RV parks. Weekends around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day fill first, so booking several weeks ahead is realistic for the state parks and the larger county campground.
Spring is wet. April is the wettest month, averaging around 147 mm of precipitation over roughly 11 rainy days, while February is the driest at about 61 mm. Wabash River flooding can affect low-lying access roads near Beall Woods and river-adjacent sites in early spring.
Fall shifts to cool nights, lower crowds, and hardwood color, especially at Beall Woods and Red Hills. Winter camping is possible at parks that stay open, but expect freezing overnight lows, occasional snow, and reduced services; some restrooms and shower buildings close for the season.
How to book
Reservation systems split by park operator. The Red Hills campground features more than 100 campsites, with online reservations available through ExploreMoreIL. Illinois DNR reservations must be made at least three days before the camping date, and stays are capped at 14 nights within a 30-day period. The Horse Camp at Red Hills is a separate Class C equestrian area booked through the same Illinois system. Beall Woods uses the same state platform for reservable stays; the small campground is rustic and some sites are first-come, first-served.
Sullivan County Park & Lake takes bookings directly through its park office and through third-party platforms; the park office phone is (812) 268-5537.
New Vision RV Park LLC and Hillbilly Acres Campground LLC are privately operated and book directly. For holiday weekends, secure sites well in advance across all options.
What to expect on site
Hookups and amenities vary widely. Red Hills offers Class A campsites with electricity, a sanitary dump station, water, and a modern accessible shower and restroom building, and some sites are pull-through with 50-amp service. The campground has no sewer hookups at individual sites, but the dump station is available on the way in or out.
Sullivan County Park & Lake has more than 500 campsites, ranging from primitive tent areas to improved sites with water and electric, and year-round slip sites with water, electric, and sewer for RVs and fifth-wheels. Beall Woods is smaller and more basic: 16 rustic sites with picnic tables, pit toilets, drinking water, and a dump station near the campground, but no electric, water, or sewer hookups at the sites.
Cell coverage is generally reliable at the county park and Red Hills, and thinner in the Beall Woods bottomlands. Bring bug spray from late spring through early fall.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Vincennes, IN
How much does an RV rental in Vincennes cost?
An RV rental in Vincennes is one of the more affordable ways to explore southern Indiana. On RVezy, travel trailers in the Vincennes area generally start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs typically run $200 to $350. Because hosts set their own nightly rates, you can find cheap RV rental Vincennes options by booking midweek or in shoulder season (April or October). Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and bundle add-ons like camp chairs or a generator with one host to save on fees. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Vincennes,IndianaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Vincennes?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Vincennes. Indiana does not require a special RV license or commercial driver's license (CDL) for any motorhome you'll find on RVezy, including Class A, Class C, and campervans. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the RVezy platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring your valid home country driver's license, and an International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended if your license is not in English. With paperwork out of the way, you can focus on cruising the Wabash River bluffs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection included when I rent an RV in Vincennes?
Yes, peace of mind comes standard. Every RVezy booking in Vincennes includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pull out of the host's driveway. The protection plan helps cover accidental damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage level (Basic, Standard, or Premium) during checkout, not the host. Coverage levels differ in deductible and limits, giving renters meaningful financial protection so you can relax on the road. Pro tip: choose a higher protection tier if you're planning longer drives out toward Holiday World or French Lick.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Vincennes RV rental?
Plans change, and RVezy makes that easy. The cancellation policy is set by RVezy across the platform, not by individual hosts, and it includes a money-back grace period after booking so you can lock in your Vincennes RV trip with confidence. If a host cancels, you receive a full refund or travel credit. You'll see the full policy details during checkout and on your booking confirmation. Pro tip: book early for events like the Watermelon Festival or the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous, knowing the grace period gives you breathing room if your schedule shifts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Vincennes RV trip?
Absolutely, pets are part of the family. Plenty of hosts on RVezy offer pet-friendly RV rental Vincennes options, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page. Once you're on the road, Vincennes is a dog-lover's playground: the Vincennes Riverwalk along the Wabash, Gregg Park's leashed trails, and Ouabache Trails Park (pronounced WAH-bash) all welcome leashed dogs. Some hosts charge a small pet cleaning fee (typically $25 to $75), which you'll see clearly on the listing. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl. Indiana summers can hit 90F, and shaded riverwalk benches are perfect for a hydration break.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/rules/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Vincennes?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your trip. Many Vincennes hosts offer RV delivery to nearby campgrounds like Ouabache Trails Park, Vincennes RV Park on E Robinson Lane, or to your driveway in Knox County. The host arrives ahead of your check-in, levels and sets up the RV, connects shore power and water, and walks you through the systems so you don't lift a finger. Delivery fees usually range from $2 to $4 per mile round-trip, with some hosts including free local drop-off within 10 miles. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV, especially if you'd rather skip towing through downtown Vincennes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Vincennes,IndianaHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Vincennes?
You've got serious road-trip range from Vincennes. Most RVezy hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for an upgraded rate, perfect for longer loops. Popular distances from Vincennes: Holiday World in Santa Claus is about 70 miles southeast, French Lick Resort sits 50 miles east, Indianapolis is roughly 120 miles northeast, Louisville is about 130 miles east, and St. Louis is around 160 miles west. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state loop, message the host before booking and ask about an unlimited-mileage upgrade. Many will adjust the rate for serious road-trippers.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039009454-Understanding-mileage-and-generator-allowancesWhere are the best campgrounds near Vincennes, IN?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Vincennes include Ouabache Trails Park, a 254-acre wooded county park just minutes from downtown with electric and water hookups, hiking trails, and rustic cabins. Vincennes RV Park at 500 E Robinson Lane offers 26 full-hookup sites year-round for rigs up to 60 feet. Just across the Illinois line, Red Hills State Park provides year-round 30/50-amp service and a quiet lake setting. About an hour southeast, Lincoln State Park's Lake Lincoln Campground has 50-amp electric and water hookups near Holiday World. Pro tip: Ouabache Trails fills up fast on summer weekends, so book your site 4 to 6 weeks ahead.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Vincennes?
Late April through mid-October is prime time for RV camping Vincennes. Spring (April-May) brings highs in the 60s-70s and blooming dogwoods along the Wabash. Summer (June-August) is warm and humid with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s, perfect for Rainbow Beach Aquatic Center and Wabash River paddling. Fall (September-October) is a local favorite: 60s-70s, lower humidity, and Apple Hill Orchard bustling with cider donuts and pick-your-own apples. Winters dip into the 20s-40s with occasional snow, and most public campgrounds close November through March, though Vincennes RV Park stays open year-round. Pro tip: aim for the second weekend of September for the Knox County Watermelon Festival.
weather.gov/pah/I've never driven an RV before. Is it hard to learn?
Honestly, it's easier than you'd expect, and Vincennes is a great place to start. Most first-time renters pick up the basics in about 30 minutes. Every RVezy host gives a full walkthrough at pickup: how to dump tanks, hook up shore power, run the awning, and check tire pressure. Vincennes itself has wide, flat streets and uncongested rural highways, so you can build confidence quickly. If you'd rather skip the driving altogether, book a delivered travel trailer and let the host set everything up. Pro tip: take a 10-minute practice loop around the Vincennes University campus parking lot before heading out. Wide turns, low traffic, no surprises.
in.gov/bmv/driving-safety/What happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Vincennes includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. Whether it's a flat tire on US-41, a dead battery at Ouabache Trails, or a generator hiccup on the way to French Lick, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a quick text away for system-specific questions like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater, and the RVezy support team backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: snap photos of your RV's VIN and license plate before leaving the driveway. It makes any roadside call go faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips from Vincennes, IN?
Vincennes is a perfect launch pad for a Midwest RV road trip. Top routes include: south to Holiday World & Splashin' Safari and Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph in Santa Claus (about 70 miles, 90 minutes); east to French Lick Resort and Hoosier National Forest (50 miles, an hour); north to Indianapolis via US-41 and I-70 (120 miles, 2 hours); a Lincoln Heritage loop through Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial and Lincoln State Park (75 miles); or a cross-border swing west to St. Louis (160 miles, 2.5 hours). All are interstate-friendly and well within range of standard mileage allowances. Pro tip: combine French Lick and West Baden Springs into a weekend, and stop at Patoka Lake for a swim along the way.
nps.gov/libo/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for a Vincennes RV trip?
Budgeting fuel for your motorhome rental Vincennes is straightforward. Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8-12 MPG, Class A rigs run 6-9 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10-14 MPG combined). Indiana gas prices typically run slightly below the national average. A round trip from Vincennes to Holiday World (140 miles) in a Class C would cost roughly $45-$60 in fuel. Pro tip: top off at Pilot or Love's just outside town on US-41 before heading into Hoosier National Forest. Stations get sparser south of Petersburg, and prices climb closer to resort areas.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Vincennes?
Booking ahead pays off, especially in summer. Indiana State Parks like Lincoln State Park and Harmonie State Park open reservations up to 6 months in advance through the Indiana DNR's reservation system (camp.IN.gov), and prime summer weekends fill within days of release. Ouabache Trails Park (a Knox County park) takes reservations directly through the county. Private parks like Vincennes RV Park and Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph book 2-3 months ahead for July-August stays. Pro tip: for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends, book the moment the 6-month window opens. For shoulder-season fall trips, two weeks of lead time is usually plenty.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/reservations/What are driving conditions like around Vincennes?
Driving around Vincennes is refreshingly stress-free for an RV. The terrain is mostly flat farmland with gentle rolling hills, and the main arteries (US-41, US-50, and US-150) are wide, well-maintained two-lane and four-lane highways. Downtown Vincennes has a few historic narrow streets near the George Rogers Clark Memorial and Basilica, so larger Class A rigs should stick to Sixth Street and US-41 through town. Watch for Amtrak crossings near the Wabash and farm-equipment traffic in spring and fall. Winter can bring icy patches December-February. Pro tip: the Lincoln Memorial Bridge into Illinois has a 13'6'' clearance, plenty of room for any RV on RVezy.
in.gov/indot/current-projects/traffic-information/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Vincennes?
Vincennes-area campgrounds are well-equipped for a smooth stay. Vincennes RV Park offers full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) at every site plus Wi-Fi. Ouabache Trails Park has electric and water at most sites with a central dump station and shower house. State parks like Lincoln and Harmonie provide 30/50-amp electric, water spigots, dump stations, modern restrooms, and hot showers. For potable water top-offs and dump-station access on the road, both Vincennes RV Park and most Indiana state parks allow non-guests to use facilities for a small fee. Pro tip: Wabash River campsites can be buggy in July, so pack citronella and screen-room mesh for evenings outside.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/inns-camping/campgrounds/What's typically included inside an RV rental in Vincennes?
You'll find most RVs in the Vincennes area come ready to camp. Standard features include a queen or king bed, dinette and convertible sofa for extra sleepers, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor speakers. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss in rural Knox County, so most hosts recommend a mobile hotspot. Generators are common in Class C and Class A rigs (great for boondocking near Hoosier National Forest). Pro tip: check the listing's sleeps count carefully. A 'sleeps 6' RV is comfortable for 4 adults plus 2 kids.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for?
Vincennes hosts offer lots of ways to customize your trip. Popular add-ons include bedding and linen packages ($25-$50), camp chairs and outdoor rugs ($15-$30), generators ($20-$40/night), bike racks, kayaks, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's address in or near Vincennes, with some hosts offering delivery to Ouabache Trails Park or your driveway. Mileage policies vary: most listings include 100-150 free miles per night, with extra miles at $0.30-$0.45 each, and some offer unlimited mileage upgrades. Pro tip: message the host before booking to bundle add-ons. Many will waive the linen fee or throw in firewood if you're booking 3+ nights.
visitindiana.com/things-to-do/road-trips/How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You'll pay for your Vincennes RV rental through the platform with a credit card, no cash to the host. The booking total includes the nightly rate, service fee, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV is returned clean and undamaged. Pro tip: do a video walkaround of the RV at pickup and drop-off and send it through the RVezy app's messaging. It's the fastest way to ensure your deposit comes back in full.
