Campgrounds and RV parks near West Point, IA

West Point sits in Lee County in southeast Iowa, roughly midway between Fort Madison on the Mississippi River and the Henry County lake country to the northwest. RV renters use it as a practical base for the Mississippi River corridor, historic Nauvoo across the river in Illinois, and Iowa's southeast state park network. The closest private option is Duck Haven RV Campground, a small park near Fort Madison offering RV and tent sites next to a lake. Geode State Park, northwest of West Point, is the largest public campground in the area, built around 187-acre Lake Geode and managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Across the river in Illinois, Nauvoo State Park adds a second state-run option along the Mississippi. Smaller and specialty properties round out the mix. Nauvoo RV Park serves travelers who want to be close to the historic district, while Camp Nauvoo offers a campground on a bluff-side property near the historic sites, with tent and RV options.

Iowa state parks use a single online reservation system operated through ReserveAmerica. Geode State Park is fully reservable and accepts bookings April 1 through December 14 until 10:00 pm CST the day of arrival, with a rolling window that opens three months in advance of the arrival date. Book as soon as the window opens for summer weekends, since electric sites turn over first. From November 1 through March 31, most Iowa state park campsites shift to walk-in only. Illinois state parks book through the ExploreMoreIL system run by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. All campers at Nauvoo State Park must obtain a permit for overnight camping from the park office, and groups of 25 or more must get advance permission before entering the park. Private parks handle bookings directly. Duck Haven RV Campground, Camp Nauvoo, and Nauvoo RV Park take reservations through their own offices or websites.
