Campgrounds and RV parks near Concordia, KS

Water is the main draw. Lovewell Reservoir offers boating, swimming, and fishing for walleye, white bass, wiper, crappie, freshwater drum, carp, and channel and flathead catfish, with fishing open year-round. Boat ramps, a swim beach, and a marina serve day users and campers staying at Walleye Point, Cedar Point, or Willow. On land, public hunting for deer, waterfowl, and upland game is available in season, and wildlife watching is easy from campground loops. Visitors may spot deer, quail, pheasants, turkeys, owls, eagles, prairie dogs, foxes, and bluebirds across the park's prairie and shoreline habitats. In Concordia itself, families often pair a lake trip with the National Orphan Train Complex and the POW Camp Concordia museum before heading back to camp.

The camping season in this part of Kansas is clearly defined. Reservable campsites at Lovewell State Park are open to reserve from April 1 through October 31. Outside those dates, some loops close entirely and services taper off. Cottonwood, Cedar Point, and North Willow campgrounds close for the season, while Walleye Point and South Willow remain open for hardier off-season campers. Late spring brings the greenest prairie and the most active fishing, but also the strongest thunderstorms and tornado risk. Summer is peak season for swimming, boating, and family trips, with hot, humid afternoons typical of the region. Early fall is often the most comfortable window, with warm days, cool nights, and lighter weekend crowds. Winter camping is possible but limited. Southwinds, Cottonwood, and Willow shower and restroom buildings close for the season, the Walleye Point restroom and shower building remains open, and dump station facilities are closed. Plan for self-contained RV use if traveling between November and March.

Expect open, rolling prairie with limited tree cover, big skies, and steady wind. The Lovewell area is rural, with minimal light pollution and open sightlines for night-sky viewing. Cell coverage can be patchy at the reservoirs, so download maps before arriving. Lovewell offers utility hookup sites with freeze-proof water and sewer at designated sites, plus improved primitive sites and rustic and deluxe camping cabins. Utility sites accommodate most standard rental trailers and Class C motorhomes; check length limits per loop before booking a larger rig. Four shower-toilet buildings, two vault toilets, and two trailer dump stations are centrally located. Pets are welcome in most areas but must be leashed and are not allowed in the swimming area or park buildings.
