Campgrounds and RV parks near Anchorage, KY

Anchorage is a small residential city in Jefferson County, roughly a dozen miles east of downtown Louisville. It sits within the Louisville metro area, which puts RV travelers within a short drive of the Ohio River, bourbon country, and a mix of private RV parks and state-park campgrounds on both sides of the state line. Most camping options near Anchorage are private full-hookup parks on the outskirts of Louisville, plus public campgrounds across the Ohio River in southern Indiana. Charlestown State Park sits on former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant land in Clark County, Indiana, about 8 miles east of I-65 on State Road 62, making it the closest large public campground to Anchorage. Closer-in private options include Louisville North Campground, Silver Lakes Motorhome Complex and RV Park, Add-more RV Park, and Brooks RV Park and Campground, which cluster around the interstates that ring Louisville and cater to travelers using the city as a hub for Derby-week visits, distillery tours, and Ohio River recreation.

Public campgrounds in the area use Indiana's central reservation system. Charlestown State Park sites can be booked online at camp.IN.gov or by calling 1-866-622-6746. Indiana State Parks accept camping reservations up to six months in advance, with a maximum stay of 14 consecutive nights. Weekend reservations require a minimum two-night stay, and holiday weekends require three nights. Reservations are recommended, especially for full-hookup sites and shaded loops. Private parks such as Louisville North Campground, Silver Lakes Motorhome Complex and RV Park, Add-more RV Park, and Brooks RV Park and Campground are booked directly through each park's website or by phone. For Derby week and major festival weekends, reserve well in advance, as Louisville-area sites fill quickly.
