Campgrounds and RV parks near Bedford, KY

Water access is the main draw. The Ohio River anchors day trips out of Carrollton, and 2 Rivers Campground sits along the river with direct river access from the campground. General Butler State Resort Park adds a lake, hiking trails, a scenic overlook, mini-golf, tennis courts, and a swimming pool for families staying on site. Across the river, Clifty Falls State Park is built around a limestone canyon with multiple waterfalls and more than ten miles of hiking trails ranging from short loops to challenging treks through the geology of the gorge. Historic Madison, roughly a mile from the park, offers riverfront streets, historic sites, and summer events along the Ohio. Kentucky Speedway is about 15 minutes from Carrollton, and Louisville is roughly an hour southwest along I-71.

Peak camping season runs from late spring through October, when Clifty Falls State Park operates with full services including all electric sites, both modern restroom and shower houses, and water available at every campsite. Summer weekends and holidays draw the strongest demand at Clifty Falls, General Butler, and the private resorts, so booking early matters most between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Spring and fall are the quieter shoulder seasons. Fall color across the Ohio River hills is a well-known draw, and reviewers of General Butler regularly single out the autumn foliage. Cooler nights and lower humidity make October a strong month for hiking the canyon trails at Clifty Falls, though shorter daylight hours change the pace of trip planning. Winter camping is possible but limited. Clifty Falls State Park stays open year-round, with winter rates and services from November through April, one family restroom, and a single water source at the non-electric comfort station. Kentucky state park campgrounds and private resorts scale back amenities in the colder months, and some private resorts close entirely.

Site quality varies by property. 2 Rivers Campground offers 33 full-hookup sites with 30 and 50-amp service, a mix of pull-through and back-in configurations, restrooms with showers, laundry, a playground, and a maximum RV length of 65 feet. General Butler provides electric and water hookups, some pull-through sites, a dump station, restrooms with showers, and a campground playground. Clifty Falls has about 100 electric Class A sites, 31 of them pull-through, plus 62 non-electric Class C sites and a dump station near the gatehouse. A seasonal camp store and laundry operate April through October. Firewood is sold on site at Kentucky state parks, and Kentucky prohibits bringing firewood in from outside the state to help slow the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. Cell service can be inconsistent inside the state park, so travelers relying on connectivity should plan accordingly.
