Campgrounds and RV parks near Bloomfield, KY

Taylorsville Lake State Park has 16 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus fishing for bass, bluegill, and crappie, with four boat ramps and a marina offering pontoon rentals, along with water skiing, jet skiing, and bird watching. There is no dedicated swimming beach, so the park focuses on boating and fishing, with lake access via boat ramps and marina boat rentals. In Bardstown, My Old Kentucky Home State Park centres on Federal Hill, the 1818 mansion tied to Stephen Foster's famous song, with gardens, a visitor centre, and a golf course on site. Bardstown is the Bourbon Capital of the World, and within 30 minutes of the park sit Maker's Mark, Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, Lux Row, and Bardstown Bourbon Company, most within easy driving distance of any of the nearby campgrounds.

The My Old Kentucky Home State Park campground is typically open mid-March through mid-November, so shoulder-season and winter travellers should plan around that window. Other Kentucky State Parks operate year-round campgrounds, but the parks cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources during inclement-weather months when freezing temperatures are possible. At My Old Kentucky Home, the water is turned off in the coldest part of winter. Summer is peak season around Taylorsville Lake. The campground is popular during summer months, so booking in advance is recommended, especially for weekend stays or for the more spacious sites toward the back of the campground. Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year and higher lake levels, while fall generally offers milder temperatures, lower humidity, and strong foliage colour along the ridges above the lake. Derby week in early May and major Louisville events pull demand across the entire region, including Shepherdsville and Bardstown. Booking well ahead is essential for weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Expect rolling wooded terrain, gravel and paved pads, and a mix of full-hookup and electric-only sites depending on the park. Taylorsville Lake offers a central service building with restrooms, showers, and laundry, a dump station, and a gift shop with bait, tackle, firewood, ice, and drinks. Ten sites of the campground are set aside for horse camping, so expect equestrian traffic in that loop. The Kentucky Department of Parks permits the use of non-licensed vehicles in campgrounds, including golf carts, only by those individuals with a disability, and this policy is enforced for the safety of all guests. Kentucky campground sites can be occupied by a maximum of 8 occupants, with four adults and children 16 and under included in the base rate. At My Old Kentucky Home, sites can be small, tight, and unlevel, so travellers should plan on leveling blocks and extra hose length for distant hookups.
