Campgrounds near Eddyville, Kentucky
Eddyville sits on the shoreline of Lake Barkley in western Kentucky, immediately east of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, a wooded peninsula bounded by Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Interstate 24 runs just north of town, making it a straightforward RV approach from Nashville, Paducah, and St. Louis.
RV travelers have several options within a short drive. Venture River RV Park, Glory Land Campground & Events, Eddy Vegas Campground, Indian Point Campground, and Murphys Outback RV Resort all sit close to town and cater to travelers heading out to the lakes each day. Site mixes vary from full-hookup pull-throughs to grassy water-and-electric sites, and several parks are oriented around long-term guests with a smaller number of transient spots.
Across the lake, the region layers in public campgrounds at Lake Barkley State Resort Park and U.S. Forest Service campgrounds inside Land Between the Lakes such as Hillman Ferry, Piney, and Energy Lake. That mix lets travelers choose between resort-style parks close to restaurants and services or quieter, more rustic sites on the water.
Things to do around Eddyville
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Barkley supports boating with marina access and rentals, and the lake is known for crappie, bass, bluegill, and catfish fishing. Public beaches, swim areas, and boat ramps are scattered around both Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, and several private RV parks near Eddyville have their own ramps and pools.
Inside Land Between the Lakes, visitors can hike the trail network, tour the Homeplace living-history farm, visit the planetarium at Golden Pond, and drive the Elk & Bison Prairie loop. Golf, wildlife viewing, and antique shopping in nearby Cadiz round out non-water options, and Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park south of town adds additional hiking trails within about a 30-minute drive.

December - February

The area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and cool, wet winters. Summer highs commonly reach the upper 80s Fahrenheit with heat indices climbing higher, and afternoon thunderstorms can create muddy conditions on unpaved sites. Late May through early September is peak season for lake use and family travel, and holiday weekends fill quickly at the state resort parks and popular LBL campgrounds.
Spring brings the wettest weather and rising lake levels, along with strong fishing and wildflowers. Fall is often the most comfortable window for RV travel, with cooler nights, fewer bugs, and lower crowds through October. Foliage typically peaks in late October.
Winter is quieter. Kentucky State Parks note that they cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources at their campgrounds during months when freezing temperatures are possible, so travelers should contact the park directly for available services during that stretch. LBL campgrounds including Hillman Ferry and Piney operate on a March through November schedule, so off-season travelers should verify open dates before booking.
How to book campgrounds near Eddyville
Reservation systems vary by operator. At Lake Barkley State Resort Park, reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to twelve months in advance through the Kentucky State Parks reservation system. There is a one-night minimum stay during the week, and guests arriving on Friday or Saturday must stay a minimum of two nights.
Land Between the Lakes campgrounds such as Piney and Hillman Ferry use the LBL reservation system with a call center open weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM, March through November, and reservations can be made two days to six months in advance. Private parks including Venture River RV Park, Glory Land Campground & Events, Eddy Vegas Campground, Indian Point Campground, and Murphys Outback RV Resort take bookings directly through their own websites or phones. Book summer weekends and holidays well in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Private RV parks around Eddyville typically offer level full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, pools, and quick access to Lake Barkley via I-24. Some parks lean heavily toward seasonal residents with a limited number of transient sites, so calling ahead about site availability and rig size is worthwhile.
Inside LBL, expect a more rustic experience. Developed campgrounds generally provide restrooms, water access, and defined sites, while backcountry and dispersed camping require campers to bring everything they need and pack it out, and cell service is limited in many areas. Stock up on groceries, fuel, and firewood before entering the recreation area.
Kentucky State Parks prohibit the importation of firewood from any state outside of Kentucky to help prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer, and firewood is available for sale within state park campgrounds.

recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725When is the best time to take an RV trip to Eddyville?
April through early June and September through late October are the sweet spot for any Eddyville RV trip. Spring brings highs in the 67 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit range with the dogwoods and redbuds blooming around Lake Barkley, while fall delivers crisp 65 to 80 degree days and stunning color through Land Between the Lakes. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with highs around 87 to 90 degrees, perfect if you want to swim and run the AC, but campgrounds book up fast. Winter is mild but wet, with January highs around 41 degrees, and many private RV parks reduce services from November through March. Pro tip: hit Lake Barkley the weekend after Labor Day for warm water and quieter boat ramps.
weather.gov/pah/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Eddyville?
You'll do great, and Eddyville is honestly one of the best places in the country for first time renting an RV. Roads around Lake Barkley and Land Between the Lakes are wide, traffic is light, and Interstate 24 has long straight stretches with easy on-ramps. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, the water heater, the generator, and tank dumping, so you're never guessing. Start with a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer if you're nervous about driving. Take your first drive on KY-93 or US-62 to get comfortable, then point it toward The Trace through Land Between the Lakes for an easy, scenic shakedown cruise.
transportation.ky.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, lockouts, battery jumps, and towing. Your host is also typically just a text away and knows their RV inside and out, which is huge if you have a question about the awning or the propane fridge. Eddyville sits right on Interstate 24, so help can reach you quickly anywhere from Lake Barkley to Land Between the Lakes. There are also full-service RV repair shops in nearby Paducah and Hopkinsville if anything needs a professional eye. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take my Eddyville RV rental across state lines?
Yes, crossing state lines is welcome and expected, since Eddyville sits just a short drive from the Tennessee border via Interstate 24 and US-68. Most RVezy hosts allow travel throughout the continental US and Canada, and the protection plan travels with you. Tennessee is right there for a Nashville run, and Land Between the Lakes itself straddles Kentucky and Tennessee, so you'll cross the state line just by driving The Trace. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limits. If you're planning a long route like Eddyville to the Great Smoky Mountains (about 5 hours), just message the host before booking to confirm and align on mileage.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel costs should I budget for my Eddyville RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier things to budget in western Kentucky, where gas prices typically run a bit below the national average. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A motorhomes return 6 to 10 MPG. For a typical 3-day Lake Barkley loop with maybe 200 miles of driving, plan on $80 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Pilot and Love's locations along Interstate 24 near Calvert City are the closest big-rig-friendly fuel stops to Eddyville with easy in-and-out access. Pro tip: fill up before crossing into the Land Between the Lakes, there are no gas stations inside the recreation area.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Eddyville?
For summer weekends on Lake Barkley, book your campground 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for lakefront sites. Hurricane Creek Campground and other Army Corps of Engineers parks take reservations on Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance, and the lakefront sites disappear within minutes of opening. Land Between the Lakes campgrounds like Hillman Ferry, Piney, and Energy Lake also book through Recreation.gov. Private parks like Holiday Hills Resort, Indian Point, and Outback RV Resort take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Pro tip: shoulder-season trips in late April or late September are often bookable just a week or two out, and the weather is honestly better than midsummer.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232472What are driving conditions like around Eddyville?
Driving an RV around Eddyville is genuinely easy. Interstate 24 runs right past town with wide lanes and gentle grades, and KY-93, KY-293, and US-62 connect you to every major lake access point with minimal traffic. The terrain is rolling hills, not mountains, so even big Class A motorhomes handle it comfortably. Watch for two specific things: deer at dawn and dusk (especially along The Trace through Land Between the Lakes, where bison and elk roam in the prairie loop), and occasional summer thunderstorms that can pop up over the lakes. Avoid taking large rigs on narrow forest service roads in Land Between the Lakes after rain. Otherwise, it's some of the most relaxed RV driving in the country.
transportation.ky.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at Eddyville-area campgrounds?
Most full-service campgrounds around Eddyville offer 30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi, with cell service generally strong (Verizon users report 3+ bars at most parks). Holiday Hills Resort and Venture River RV Park have pools, Indian Point has direct Lake Barkley access for fishing and kayaking, and Outback RV Resort has a pool plus planned activities. Dump stations are available at every full-service park, plus free public dump stations at Land Between the Lakes' North Welcome Station, South Welcome Station, and the Golden Pond area. Fresh water is available at the same locations. Pro tip: bring a 50-foot sewer hose and a water pressure regulator, some older sites in the area have higher water pressure than newer rigs prefer.
landbetweenthelakes.us/plan-your-visit/What's inside a typical RV rental in Eddyville?
Expect more comfort than you'd think. A typical campervan rental Eddyville (Class B) sleeps 2 with a kitchenette, fridge, sink, and a wet bath. Class C motorhomes sleep 4 to 7 with a full kitchen, bathroom with shower, queen bed, dinette, and an over-cab bunk, plus seatbelts for everyone while driving. Class A motorhomes and larger travel trailers add slide-outs, residential fridges, full ovens, and often a TV, Wi-Fi hotspot, and outdoor speakers. Most rentals include a generator or solar setup for boondocking, plus heating and air conditioning, which you'll appreciate during a humid Lake Barkley July. Filter listings by sleeps count and amenities on RVezy to match the rig to your crew.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Eddyville offer all kinds of useful add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include linens and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots and dishes ($25 to $50), generators ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, kayaks, paddleboards, fire pits, and outdoor grills, which are perfect for a family RV trip Eddyville to Lake Barkley. Delivery and setup runs roughly $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. Mileage policies vary, with many hosts including 100 free miles per day and additional miles at $0.30 to $0.45 each. Pro tip: ask your host for their favorite local fishing spot on Lake Barkley when you message them, the locals know exactly where the crappie are biting.
rvezy.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Eddyville, KY through RVezy, you pay the rental cost through the platform with a credit or debit card, no cash or off-platform transfers needed. A separate refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip if everything is returned in good shape. To avoid any deposit hiccups: do a walkthrough video with your host at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane level, and empty the tanks if your rental agreement requires it. The whole process is handled inside RVezy, so there's a clear paper trail.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in an RV near Eddyville?
You've got plenty of legal overnight options. The best bet for where to park an RV in Eddyville is one of the area's full-hookup campgrounds (Holiday Hills, Indian Point, Outback RV Resort, Venture River, or Hurricane Creek Corps of Engineers park), all within a short drive of town. Some Walmart locations in the Eddyville/Kuttawa area have historically allowed one-night RV parking with manager permission, which is handy for a late arrival, always confirm with the store first. Overnight parking is not permitted on Eddyville city streets, in lake boat ramp lots, or at trailheads inside Land Between the Lakes outside of designated camping areas. Pro tip: if you're arriving late, book a pull-through site at one of the I-24 exit campgrounds, you can roll in, hook up, and be sleeping in 15 minutes.
