Campgrounds and RV parks near Eminence, KY

Water activities dominate. Taylorsville Lake State Park sits on 3,050-acre Taylorsville Lake, where anglers can vie for bass, bluegill and crappie. Visitors can rent a fishing boat, schedule cruising time on one of the marina's pontoon boats, or launch from four launching ramps, and the marina has open and covered slips, gas, food, and fishing equipment. At General Butler State Resort Park, fishing and paddle-boating are available on 30-acre Butler Lake. On land, the 16-mile trail system at Taylorsville is managed as multi-use trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Day trips from Eminence reach the Kentucky Bourbon Trail distilleries around Frankfort and Bardstown, plus downtown Louisville and Churchill Downs to the west.

The central Kentucky camping season runs strongest from April through October. Spring is the wettest stretch: rains are frequent, water levels on the Salt and Kentucky Rivers can rise quickly after storms, and severe-weather watches are common. Summer brings hot, humid days with afternoon thunderstorms, and weekends at state park campgrounds fill early, so booking months ahead is standard for holiday weekends. Fall is the most stable season for RV travel. Days are mild, humidity drops, and hardwoods around the Ohio and Kentucky River valleys turn color from mid-October into early November. Bookings ease after Labor Day but pick up again for peak foliage weekends. Winter camping is possible but limited. Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources at campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible, and travelers should contact the park directly for available resources if traveling during months that are conducive to freezing temperatures. Some private parks along the Kentucky River keep sites open year round.

State park campgrounds in this area are set up for standard RVs, with paved or gravel pads, electric and water hookups, and central bath houses. General Butler's extensive campground offers 111 campsites with electrical and water hookups. Site widths vary across loops, so measuring the rig before booking a specific site is worthwhile. Private parks skew more family-oriented. Adventure Bound Eagle Valley runs on-site pool and water-play features, and Kentucky River Campground and RV Park offers RV pads with hookups along the river. One rule applies statewide: Kentucky State Parks prohibits the importation of firewood by campers from any state outside of Kentucky, in an effort to help prevent the introduction of pests. Buy firewood locally or on site.
