Camping near Goshen, Kentucky
Goshen sits in Oldham County along the Ohio River, roughly 20 miles northeast of downtown Louisville. RV travelers typically base out of nearby Clarksville, Indiana, or head into southern Indiana state parks to find full-service sites, since the immediate Goshen area is largely residential and rural. The Ohio River corridor and I-65 make it easy to reach a mix of urban RV parks and forested state park campgrounds within a 30 to 45 minute drive.
Close-in options include Louisville North Campground in Clarksville for full hookups near downtown, along with Silver Lakes Motorhome Complex and RV Park and Add-more RV Park for straightforward RV stays. For a state-park experience, Charlestown State Park on the Indiana side offers full-hookup and electric sites on more than 5,100 acres, while Horse Camp - Deam Lake State Recreation Area serves equestrian travelers with trail access into Clark State Forest.
Most visitors treat Goshen as a base for Louisville attractions, river recreation, and southern Indiana hiking rather than as a destination in itself.
Things to do near Goshen
Louisville is the main draw. Families use campgrounds like Louisville North Campground as a base for Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Kentucky Science Center, and the Louisville Zoo. Falls of the Ohio State Park, just across the river in Clarksville, offers fossil beds and river views suitable for kids.
On the Indiana side, Charlestown State Park has over 15 miles of trails, fossil outcroppings, areas of karst topography with large sinkholes, and the ruins of a 1920s era amusement park at Rose Island. Deam Lake State Recreation Area covers a 194-acre lake with fishing, a swim beach, and rowboat and kayak rentals available Friday through Sunday between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The area is also the southern trailhead for the 58-mile Knobstone Trail, Indiana's longest natural-surface footpath.

The Goshen and Louisville area has four distinct seasons in a humid subtropical climate. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with mild days, cool nights, and lower humidity than summer. Mid-April through mid-May and mid-September through mid-October are typically the best windows for hiking and river activities.
Summer is hot and humid, with July normal highs near 89°F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Deam Lake's boat rentals run on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, so peak family demand lines up with school breaks and the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May. Book state park sites well in advance for Derby weekend and summer holidays.
Winter is cold but generally mild by Midwest standards. Charlestown State Park's campground operates year-round, while Deam Lake's campground closes each year from the Sunday before Thanksgiving to March 1. Private parks like Louisville North Campground stay open through the winter.

How to book campgrounds near Goshen
Indiana state park sites, including Charlestown State Park and Horse Camp - Deam Lake State Recreation Area, are reserved through the Indiana DNR system at Camp.IN.gov or by phone at 1-866-622-6746, up to six months in advance. Any unreserved sites are released as first-come, first-served walk-ups on the day of arrival.
Equestrian sites at Deam Lake require at least one horse to be present at the site; guests who book those sites and arrive without horses will not be able to stay in the equestrian campground. Private RV parks near Goshen, including Louisville North Campground, Silver Lakes Motorhome Complex and RV Park, and Add-more RV Park, are booked directly with each park. For Kentucky Derby week in early May and summer holiday weekends, reserve as far ahead as possible.
What to expect
Expect a split between urban-adjacent RV parks and forested state park campgrounds. Louisville North Campground is a compact, big-rig friendly park with full hookups, a pool, laundry, and a store, but sites are close together and the location is urban rather than scenic. It suits travelers focused on Louisville attractions.
Charlestown State Park has paved sites with both full-hookup and electric-only options, modern comfort stations, and mostly open sun exposure, though some loops offer more shade and privacy. Deam Lake's equestrian campground provides electric sites with a hitching post or horse stall, modern restrooms and showers, a dump station, and short lead-outs to about 80 miles of multipurpose trails in Clark State Forest. Cell service is reliable near Louisville and can be spotty in state park interiors.
