Campgrounds and RV parks near Hawesville, KY

The Ohio River drives most of the outdoor activity. Boat ramps at Hawesville give direct access to the river and to the Cannelton Lock and Dam tailwater, a productive fishing spot. Horseshoe Bend RV Campground and Boat Ramp is set up for RVers who want to launch their own boat. Across the bridge in Indiana, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari is the main family draw. Lincoln State Park adds about ten miles of hiking trails, two lakes, and access to Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. Patoka Lake covers roughly 8,800 acres of water, with a marina, swimming beach, disc golf, archery range, and bald eagle viewing. For quieter days, Sycamore Springs Park - Roberson Foundation offers creek access, fishing, and campfires in a low-key setting suited to families with young kids.

The prime camping window in this part of the Ohio River valley runs from late April through October. Summers are long, hot, and humid, with July highs averaging near 88F. Peak family demand aligns with school summer break and holiday weekends, when lakeside and resort sites at Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph, Lincoln State Park Campground, and Patoka Lake State Reservoir fill quickly. Spring brings the wettest stretch, with April and May the rainiest months on average. Rivers and reservoirs can run high, and some primitive sites may be soft or closed after heavy rain. Fall is a strong shoulder season, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and Halloween camping weekends that many area campgrounds program with trick-or-treating and site decorating. Winters are cool to cold and wet. Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph operates seasonally, generally May through October, with limited Christmas Cabin weekends the first three weekends of December. Lincoln State Park's campground stays open year-round, but water may be off in the coldest months, and the Lake Lincoln swimming beach and boat rental are currently closed due to dam repairs.

Site density varies sharply by campground. Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph is a large, activity-driven resort with hundreds of RV sites, cabins, pools, mini golf, and heavy golf-cart traffic. Expect a lively atmosphere rather than a quiet one. Lincoln State Park Campground offers about 150 electric sites with water at each site and 121 primitive sites, plus cabins and cottages. There are no pull-through sites, and some sites are short and uneven, so bring leveling blocks. Patoka Lake State Reservoir has roughly 455 electric sites and 45 primitive sites across several loops, with dump stations and lake access from many sites. Cell service can be spotty in the more remote loops. Expect humid summer nights, mosquitoes near water, and periodic blue-green algae advisories on the reservoirs. Store food carefully; raccoons work the campgrounds after dark.
