Most trips center on the two lakes and the LBL peninsula between them. Spring and fall bring milder weather and fewer crowds, though spring storms can be heavy. Winter camping is limited: due to weather, Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources at their campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible, and travelers should contact the park directly for available resources during months conducive to freezing temperatures. Several private parks near Hopkinsville and Clarksville stay open year-round for RV travelers passing through on I-24.

Site conditions vary widely. State park pads can be tricky for larger rigs: the paved sites often feature steep grades and drop-offs near the picnic areas, requiring substantial leveling blocks for most RVs, and electrical and water connections are shared between adjacent sites, positioned centrally, so extension cords prove essential for reaching your rig.
