Campgrounds near Inez, Kentucky
Inez sits in Martin County in the coalfields of far eastern Kentucky, close to the West Virginia line and the Tug Fork River. RV travelers use it as a base for two state park lakes and a stretch of Appalachian backcountry that draws anglers, paddlers, and off-road riders. Most developed campgrounds are within roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive, clustered around Louisa and the Paintsville area rather than Inez itself.
Yatesville Lake State Park offers a variety of campsites, including double-wide sites for two RVs and boat-in primitive sites, with a 2,300-acre lake known for bluegill, bass, and crappie fishing. Paintsville Lake State Park sits on 1,140 acres and features 32 developed sites with full hookups that can accommodate RVs up to 48 feet, plus 10 primitive walk-in tent sites.
Closer to Inez, Creekside Cabins and RV Park and The Falls Campground both sit near Louisa along Blaine Creek and its tributaries, offering RV sites in a rural setting. Trails 2 Paradise, across the state line in Delbarton, West Virginia, gives access to the Hatfield-McCoy trail system for ATV and side-by-side riders.
Things to do near Inez
Water recreation drives most trips. Yatesville Lake supports houseboats, pontoons, speed boats, and jet skis, with the Yatesville Marina serving boaters and anglers. Paintsville Lake offers a full-service marina, four-lane boat launch, and fishing for bass and stocked trout.
Hikers have several established trail systems. Yatesville's Mary Ingles Trail System is made up of six separate loops including rugged wooded hiking trails, exercise paths, and an ADA nature trail, while the Pleasant Ridge Trail System adds five wooded nature trails and the Yatesville Lake Multi-Use Trail spans more than 20 miles for hikers, mountain bikers, backpackers, and horseback riders. Paintsville Lake has the Kiwanis Trail, a National Recreation Trail, and access to the Mountain Homeplace, a living history museum modeled on an 1850 to 1900 eastern Kentucky farming community.
Other nearby draws include the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Museum in Paintsville and the Dawkins Line Rail Trail, a converted rail bed with tunnels and trestles.

In Inez, summers are long, warm, and muggy, winters are short, very cold, and wet, and it is partly cloudy year round. Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when lake camping demand is highest and family travel dominates. The Paintsville Lake campground fills quickly during peak season, with reservations often booked months ahead.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with cooler nights, thinner crowds, and easier reservations. Fall brings hardwood color across the Cumberland Plateau ridges, and September is the month with the least rainfall in Inez, when rain falls for 12.5 days and typically collects 1.89 inches of precipitation. Late-October weekends fill fast at private campgrounds that host Halloween themed events.
Kentucky State Parks have year-round campgrounds, but due to weather the parks system cannot guarantee availability of water or other resources at campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible. Winter RV travelers should confirm hookup status by phone before arrival.
How to book campgrounds near Inez
State park sites are booked through the Kentucky State Parks reservation system, which uses ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 12 months in advance. There is a one-night minimum stay during the week at all parks, and customers arriving Friday or Saturday must stay a minimum of two nights. Longer minimum stays are required at most campgrounds during holiday periods.
Private campgrounds handle bookings directly. The Falls Campground and Creekside Cabins and RV Park list availability through their own channels and third-party platforms, while Trails 2 Paradise books through its operator site. For popular summer weekends and fall foliage weeks, book both categories as far in advance as possible.
Kentucky prohibits the importation of firewood by campers from any state outside of Kentucky, in an effort to help prevent the introduction of the Emerald Ash Borer. Buy wood on site or in state.
What to expect on arrival
Terrain around Inez is steep and wooded, and access roads to some campgrounds are narrow and winding. Big-rig drivers should plan routes on US 23 and major state highways when possible, and confirm turn-by-turn directions with the campground before arrival.
Kentucky campground sites can be occupied by a maximum of 8 occupants, with four adults and children 16 and under included in the base rate, and an additional per-adult fee collected on arrival if more than four adults will be on the site. Maximum units per site is two and may include one camper unit plus one tent, or two tents if there is no camper unit.
Cell coverage is spotty in the hollows. Campers at Paintsville Lake have reported lack of any Verizon signal, with some AT&T and T-Mobile service. Download maps and reservation confirmations before leaving the highway.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Inez, KY?
RV rental in Inez is one of the most affordable ways to explore Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian backcountry. On RVezy, travel trailers around Martin County typically run $90 to $175 per night, while motorhome rentals in Inez average $175 to $275 per night, with many hosts offering weekly discounts. To score a cheap RV rental in Inez, book midweek, travel in shoulder months like April or October, and use the price filter on RVezy to sort by budget. Pro tip: bundling delivery with a longer stay at a nearby state park often beats nightly hotel pricing in Paintsville or Pikeville.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Inez,KentuckyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Inez, Kentucky?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Inez, KY. Kentucky does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, even larger Class A coaches you'll find on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. Most first-time renters in Martin County are surprised how quick the handoff is: your host walks you through the rig before you ever turn the key.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection or coverage is included with my Inez RV rental?
Every RV rental in Inez booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you're covered from the moment you pull out of the host's driveway. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you peace of mind on winding Appalachian roads like KY-40 and US-23. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, so you decide how much coverage you want (hosts don't set this). Combined with roadside help just a phone call away, you can focus on the scenery, not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's RVezy's cancellation policy if my Inez trip plans change?
Booking an RV in Inez is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. That means consistent, predictable rules whether you rent a campervan or a fifth wheel. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, with additional flexibility depending on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so you're not left stranded. The full policy is shown clearly on the RVezy website before you confirm your booking, so you can reserve your Inez RV trip with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Inez?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in Inez is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see only rigs that welcome your four-legged co-pilot. Martin County is a great area for dog owners, with quiet country roads and riverside walks along the Tug Fork. Heading out for a longer adventure? Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Prestonsburg (about an hour southwest) allows leashed dogs on most trails and at campsites. Bring proof of vaccinations, a tie-out, and plenty of water, summer humidity in Inez often pushes the heat index past 95 degrees in July, so plan walks for early morning or evening.
parks.ky.gov/prestonsburg/parks/resort/jenny-wiley-state-resort-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or cabin near Inez?
Yes, RV delivery in Inez is one of the best perks for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in Martin County and the surrounding Big Sandy region will drive the RV directly to your campsite, hunting cabin, family reunion spot, or driveway in Inez, Warfield, or Tomahawk, then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. That means no white-knuckle drive up KY-3 or US-23 for your first trip. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location, so filter by Delivery on RVezy and message hosts directly for a quote. Pro tip: ask about delivery straight to a state park campground like Jenny Wiley, it's a popular drop point.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Inez,KentuckyHow far can I drive on an Inez RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got serious range from Inez, and yes, RV rental with unlimited mileage is offered by many RVezy hosts, just filter for it during your search. From Inez, popular drives include Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Prestonsburg (about 40 miles), Breaks Interstate Park on the Kentucky-Virginia border (about 80 miles), Hatfield-McCoy Trails just across the West Virginia line, and Red River Gorge (about 150 miles west). nps.gov/grsm/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Inez, KY for RV camping?
You have great options for RV camping near Inez in the Big Sandy Valley. Top picks include Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Prestonsburg, with sites along 1,100-acre Dewey Lake (check current status before booking, as the park has been undergoing renovation work); Paintsville Lake State Park, about 40 minutes west with utility hookups and bass fishing; Yatesville Lake State Park near Louisa, offering quiet waterfront sites about 45 minutes north; and Breaks Interstate Park, the Grand Canyon of the South, about 90 minutes southeast with full-hookup RV sites. For something different, Fishtrap Lake near Pikeville has US Army Corps campgrounds with electric hookups. Reserve through Reserve America or Recreation.gov 3 to 6 months out for summer weekends.
parks.ky.gov/campgroundsWhen is the best time to visit Inez for an RV trip?
The sweet spot for an Inez RV trip is mid-April through late October, with May, June, September, and October offering the most comfortable weather. Summers here are warm and muggy, July highs average in the mid-80s and the heat index can climb past 95 degrees, so AC and shaded campsites matter. Fall is the real showstopper: from late September through mid-November, the Appalachian hardwood forests around Martin County turn red, orange, and gold, perfect for scenic drives along US-23 (the Country Music Highway). Spring brings wildflowers but also the rainiest stretch. Winters dip to averages around the upper 20s to upper 30s in January with occasional snow, so plan ahead for cold-weather hookups if you're booking November through March.
weather.gov/jkl/I've never rented an RV before, how does it work in Inez?
First time renting an RV? You'll love how hands-on the RVezy experience is in Inez. After you book, your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery, covering the generator, propane, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures, no figuring it out alone in a parking lot. You can message your host through the RVezy platform before the trip with any questions, and Inez hosts tend to be friendly and patient with newcomers. For your first drive, stick to wider roads like US-23 or US-119 instead of narrow hollow roads. Want zero stress? Choose a host who offers delivery and setup, you skip the driving entirely and start your trip with the RV already leveled and ready.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002193853-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is a phone call away. Every RV rental in Inez through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. Flat tire on KY-40? Battery issue at a campsite near the Tug Fork River? Lockout in town? Just call, and a service provider will be dispatched to your location. For non-emergency questions like how to operate the awning, your host is your first line of support, and most Inez-area hosts answer within minutes. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Cell coverage can be spotty in Eastern Kentucky hollows, so a quick screenshot of important phone numbers before you head into the hills is smart.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Inez RV rental across state lines or into Canada/Mexico?
Yes, an RV road trip from Inez easily crosses into West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, and Tennessee, and most RVezy hosts welcome multi-state travel within the U.S. (just confirm with your host through the listing first). Inez sits close to the West Virginia border, so a trip to the Hatfield-McCoy Trails or New River Gorge National Park is practically your backyard. Canadian travel may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message them before booking if that's the plan. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Popular interstate routes from Inez include the loop through the Smokies (TN/NC) and the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much should I budget for gas?
Fuel is one of the bigger line items in any RV trip budget, so here's a realistic breakdown for Inez: Class A motorhomes average 7 to 10 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, campervans (Class B) 15 to 20 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer 9 to 13 MPG. Gas prices in Martin County tend to track close to the national average, with stations in Inez, Warfield, and along US-23 toward Paintsville. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $150 to $225 in fuel. Pro tip: fuel up in Pikeville or Paintsville before heading deeper into the hollows, station options thin out fast once you turn off the main highways.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Inez?
For the best campgrounds near Inez, book 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends and fall-color season (late September through October), when sites at Jenny Wiley, Paintsville Lake, and Breaks Interstate Park fill quickly. Kentucky State Parks use the Reserve America system, and reservations typically open up to 12 months in advance with a small non-refundable booking fee. US Army Corps campgrounds at Fishtrap Lake and Dewey Lake book through Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. Midweek stays in May or early October are usually wide open even a few days out. Pro tip: if a state park is full, check private RV parks in Pikeville or Louisa, they often have last-minute availability.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Inez, and any local hazards to know?
Driving an RV around Inez is very doable with a little awareness of Appalachian terrain. Main routes like US-23 (the Country Music Highway), US-119, and KY-40 are well-maintained two-lane highways with manageable grades. The catch: many secondary roads wind through narrow hollows with sharp switchbacks, low-hanging tree branches, and the occasional coal truck, so stick to numbered routes in larger rigs. Watch for fog in river valleys in early morning, deer at dawn and dusk, and ice on shaded curves in winter. Local tip: the scenic drive on KY-292 toward the Tug Fork River is gorgeous but tight, choosing delivery to your campsite is the smart play for big Class A rigs.
transportation.ky.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities and hookups can I expect at campgrounds near Inez?
Most campgrounds within an hour of Inez offer the essentials and then some. State parks like Paintsville Lake and Yatesville Lake typically provide 30/50-amp electric, water, picnic tables, fire rings, bathhouses with hot showers, and on-site dump stations. Full sewer hookups are available at select premium sites. US Army Corps campgrounds at Fishtrap Lake offer electric and water with a centralized dump station. Potable water fill-ups are easy at any state park entrance. Cell signal and Wi-Fi can be inconsistent in the mountains, expect stronger service at developed parks and weaker coverage at backcountry sites. Pro tip: top off your fresh water and dump tanks in Pikeville or Prestonsburg before heading into more remote spots near Inez where dump stations are scarce.
parks.ky.gov/campgroundsWhat features and amenities come standard in Inez RV rentals?
Most RVezy motorhome and campervan rentals in Inez come fully equipped for a comfortable Appalachian trip: queen or king beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, and microwave, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (AC and furnace), dinette seating, and seatbelts for traveling passengers. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes typically include onboard generators, helpful for boondocking near the Tug Fork River. TVs are common; Wi-Fi and Starlink setups vary by host. Travel trailers and fifth wheels often have slide-outs that dramatically expand living space once parked. Each listing on RVezy shows exactly what's included with photos and a feature list, so you'll know before booking whether you have an outdoor kitchen, awning, or solar panels.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Inez,KentuckyWhat add-ons can I get with my Inez RV rental, and how does pickup work?
RVezy hosts in Inez offer popular add-ons that make your trip easier: linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits with cookware and dishes, generator usage, portable grills, camping chairs, bike racks, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most-loved option, especially for guests visiting Martin County for family reunions, weddings, or Hatfield-McCoy trail rides just across the border. Pickup is straightforward: meet your host at their location, do a 30-to-45-minute walkthrough, complete the digital checkout on RVezy, and you're rolling. Each host sets their mileage policy, often around 100 free miles per day, with unlimited-mileage options available. Filter for those on RVezy if you're planning a longer loop through Eastern Kentucky.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Inez,KentuckyHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Inez?
Payment for your campervan rental in Inez, or any RVezy booking, is handled securely through the RVezy platform, never in cash to the host. You'll pay your booking total at checkout with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition, on time, and following the host's fuel and dump-station instructions, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid any deposit issues: take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff and report any incidents through the RVezy platform right away. Simple and stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Inez during winter, and how do I prep for the cold?
Yes, winter RV rental in Inez is absolutely possible and can be a quieter, scenic way to experience Appalachia, just plan a bit more carefully. January lows in the region average in the mid-20s with occasional snow, so look for RVs on RVezy that feature heated holding tanks, an enclosed/insulated underbelly, a working propane furnace, and a 30-amp shore-power connection. Many Kentucky State Park campgrounds stay open year-round but may shut off water during hard freezes, so plan to fill your fresh tank before arrival and bring jugs as backup. Heated water hoses and tank heaters are smart add-ons to request from your host. Pro tip: winter typically brings fewer crowds and lower nightly rates, making it a great time to explore the region.
