Campgrounds and RV parks near Jenkins, KY

Jenkins sits in Letcher County in Kentucky's far southeastern coalfields, tucked against Pine Mountain along US 23 near the Virginia state line. The area sits within a short drive of several Appalachian parks, so RV travelers typically use Jenkins as a base for touring the Breaks canyon, Carr Fork Lake, and the Cumberland Gap corridor rather than staying in town itself. Campground options span two state park systems and a handful of private parks. Carr Creek State Park lies to the west near Sassafras and offers a lakeside campground with water and electric hookups. Breaks Interstate Park, jointly operated by Kentucky and Virginia, sits east of Jenkins along the Russell Fork gorge. Natural Tunnel State Park and Jessie Lea RV Park and Campground are farther south across the Virginia line near Duffield and Big Stone Gap. Camp Mountventures rounds out the closer private options for travelers who want a smaller, mountain-oriented base. Sites in the region skew toward wooded, hilly terrain, so RV renters should confirm site length and slide-out clearance before booking.

Kentucky State Parks, including Carr Creek State Park, use ReserveAmerica. The maximum reservation window is 12 months in advance, with a one-night minimum midweek and a two-night minimum on weekends. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival, and sites can hold up to eight occupants with a maximum of two units per site. Breaks Interstate Park and the Virginia State Parks, including Natural Tunnel, take campground reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Virginia State Parks reservation system. Primitive tent sites at Natural Tunnel are booked by calling the park office directly. Private parks such as Jessie Lea RV Park and Campground and Camp Mountventures generally take direct phone or online bookings. Kentucky State Parks prohibits importing firewood from outside the state, so plan to buy it on site.
