Campgrounds and RV parks near Millersburg, KY

History drives most itineraries here. Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park includes a Pioneer Museum with exhibits on Daniel Boone and the salt-making process, hiking trails, and a monument marking the last Revolutionary War battle in Kentucky. The River Trail is a one-mile loop to the Licking River, and other trails include the Buffalo Trace, Savannah Loop, Indian Run Loop, and the Blue Licks Heritage Trail. Kentucky Horse Park sits on more than 1,200 acres and offers daily programs and presentations along with one of the most comprehensive schedules of equestrian events in the country. Admission includes the International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian Affiliate, and the American Saddlebred Museum. The Legacy Trail is a 12-mile paved walking and biking path that runs from the campground toward downtown Lexington. Fort Boonesborough features a full-scale replica of the 1775 fort with resident artisans demonstrating 18th-century pioneer life.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in central Kentucky. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is manageable, and the state parks run their full slate of programming. Wildflowers appear in April and May, and October brings peak hardwood color along the Licking and Kentucky rivers. Summer is the busiest booking window, driven by school breaks and the Kentucky Horse Park's event calendar. Expect heat, humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and full campgrounds on weekends. The Kentucky Horse Park's equine theme park is open for its main season April through October, Wednesday through Sunday. Winter travel is possible but limited. Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee the availability of water at their campgrounds during months when freezing temperatures are possible. At Blue Licks, the central service building is closed and no water is available from mid-November through March. Fort Boonesborough turns off site water in winter, but restrooms remain open and a water fill-up point is available year-round when the campground is operating.

Most campgrounds in this area cater to standard RVs with electric and water hookups, paved or gravel pads, and central dump stations rather than full sewer at every site. The Kentucky Horse Park does not have sewer hookups at each site, but has two dump stations near the front of the campground and sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp electric service. Blue Licks Battlefield sites may require extended cords and hoses; the campground has a dump station and a central service building with showers. Kentucky State Parks prohibits the importation of firewood by campers from any state outside of Kentucky to help prevent the introduction of the Emerald Ash Borer, and firewood is available for sale in the state park campgrounds. Blue Licks also has a swimming pool, mini-golf, picnic areas, and a playground. Cell service can be patchy at riverside sites, so download maps before arrival.
