Campgrounds and RV parks near Munfordville, KY

Munfordville sits in Hart County along the Green River in south-central Kentucky, right off Interstate 65, roughly 30 miles north of Bowling Green. The town lies on the banks of the Green River, which flows west into Mammoth Cave National Park, home to the world's longest known cave system. That location makes Munfordville a convenient RV base for park visitors who want easier interstate access than the roads inside the park itself. Campground options split into two groups. Private RV parks with hookups cluster along the I-65 corridor between Munfordville, Horse Cave, and Cave City, including Horse Cave KOA Holiday, Sugar Maple RV Park, Cave Country RV Campground, Dino Valley RV Park, and Mammoth Cave Jellystone Park Camp Resort. Inside the national park, three frontcountry campgrounds and thirteen designated backcountry sites cater to everyone from RV travelers to backpackers and paddlers on the Green River, with the main campground near the visitor center, a group and equestrian camp at Maple Springs, and a small tent-only campground at Houchin Ferry. Downtown Munfordville itself has riverfront green space along the Green River, but overnight RV camping is concentrated at the private parks along the interstate.

Campgrounds inside Mammoth Cave National Park book through Recreation.gov. Reservations open up to 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov, and summer weekends are known to fill quickly. Backcountry and riverbank trips require separate permits: Mammoth Cave Backcountry permits are required for overnight camping at designated campsites and floodplain, and can be obtained online up to 6 months in advance or in person at the Mammoth Cave Campground kiosk or Visitor Center. Riverbank Camping is another option which requires a permit, available online or at Mammoth Cave Campground or the Visitor Center, and permits are not issued if river level is 20 feet or above. Private parks such as Horse Cave KOA Holiday, Cave Country RV Campground, Dino Valley RV Park, Sugar Maple RV Park, and Mammoth Cave Jellystone Park Camp Resort take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Cave tours book separately on Recreation.gov and popular routes sell out weeks ahead in summer.
