Central Kentucky has four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and muggy, winters are cold and wet, and skies are partly cloudy year round. Peak RV season runs from late spring through October, when distilleries, the railway museum, and state parks are all fully active. Spring brings wildflowers and green pasture, along with the wettest stretch of the year. May is typically the wettest month, averaging around 128 mm of precipitation. Summer is the busiest booking window, with humid afternoons, occasional thunderstorms, and long daylight hours ideal for distillery tours and train rides. Fall is often the most comfortable season, with daytime temperatures in the mid-60s Fahrenheit dipping into the mid-40s at night, and mostly sunny weather with occasional showers timed with bourbon-country foliage. Winter is quiet. Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee water or other resources at their campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible, and travelers are asked to contact the park directly. Some private parks stay open year round with limited services, so confirm before booking a cold-weather trip.

Sites in the area range from level pull-throughs to shaded loops on rolling terrain, and reviewers note that state-park sites can be tight, short, and unlevel, so leveling blocks and long cords help. Hookup availability varies: state-park sites typically offer water and electric with a central dump station, while private parks around Elizabethtown lean toward full hookups suitable for larger rigs. Expect quiet, small-town surroundings. New Haven itself has a compact main street with a handful of casual dining options, and Bardstown is a short drive for full dining and grocery runs. Cell coverage is generally solid along US-31E and I-65 but can thin out on rural back roads between distilleries. In the coldest part of winter, water is turned off at the state park, campers must be self-contained, and a discount rate applies while water is off. Golf carts are allowed in state-park campgrounds with a permit purchased at check-in, valid at all Kentucky State Park campgrounds and the Kentucky Horse Park, and disabled guests displaying a hanging tag are not required to purchase one.
