Campgrounds near Parkway Village
Parkway Village is a small home rule-class city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, part of the Louisville Metro government and located in west-central Jefferson County directly south of downtown Louisville. For RV travelers, the practical camping base is the Louisville metro ring, with parks clustered along the I-65, I-64, and I-71 corridors within about a 30-minute drive.
The closest full-hookup options include Louisville North Campground, Add-more RV Park, Brooks RV Park and Campground, Silver Lakes Motorhome Complex and RV Park, and Louisville South KOA Holiday. Louisville North Campground sits just across the Ohio River in Clarksville, Indiana, a short drive from downtown Louisville off I-65, while Louisville South KOA Holiday anchors the south side of the metro along I-65 in Shepherdsville.
Most developed campgrounds in the region sit 20 to 45 minutes from downtown, with moderate seasonal temperatures. The main camping season runs from spring through fall, though several Louisville-area private parks remain open year-round with limited winter services during hard freezes.
Things to do near Parkway Village
Parkway Village sits minutes from Louisville's core attractions. Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum are close by, and the neighborhood is convenient to the airport, downtown, and the Ohio River waterfront. Visitors can tour Churchill Downs and its Kentucky Derby Museum, then take the kids to the Kentucky Science Center, the Louisville Slugger Museum, and the Louisville Zoo.
Outdoor options are within easy reach. Hikers can find scenery and spots to cast a line at McNeely Lake Park, and the Falls of the Ohio State Park draws guests interested in river views and Devonian-era fossils. Jefferson Memorial Forest offers trails on the south side of the metro, and the Louisville Mega Cavern provides an all-weather underground experience.
For a longer day trip, Taylorsville Lake State Park lies roughly 30 miles southeast, with fishing, boat ramps, a marina, and a 16-mile multi-use trail system used by hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders.

The Louisville area has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are moderately cold with temperatures rarely below zero degrees Fahrenheit and January is the coldest month, average annual snowfall is about 13 inches, and summers are hot and humid with July being the hottest month. Spring and summer months are characterized by changeable, wet weather.
Spring brings the region's wettest stretch and the highest severe-weather risk. From mid-March through May and again from September into mid-November, unsettled weather brings fairly frequent rains and sudden changes in temperature. Spring is rainier and more unstable than autumn, and tornadoes can form, more often in spring but occasionally in autumn. May is typically the wettest month.
Summer draws Derby-adjacent crowds and peak campground demand, so weekends and event dates fill early. Fall is drier and more stable, and it is widely considered the best window for comfortable RV travel in the region. Winter camping is possible at year-round parks, but water service can be limited during hard freezes.

FANTASTIC RV! Runs really strong as we traveled through the hills of Kentucky! Very, very nice RV and comfortable! The pop-out is just right and easy to set-up! Marisol is a great communicator and host! We had some issues with our flight getting in late and she totally accommodated us for the meet-up as well as the drop-off! Highly recommend she and her AWESOME RV, Thor (ya, it's the model name, but fits this tough little RV)!

Booking and how to reserve
Private RV parks near Parkway Village handle reservations directly, either through their own websites or by phone. Louisville North Campground, Add-more RV Park, Brooks RV Park and Campground, Silver Lakes Motorhome Complex and RV Park, and Louisville South KOA Holiday all take direct bookings, and the KOA can also be booked through the KOA reservation network.
For state park camping in the wider region, use the Kentucky State Parks reservation system. Campsites can be reserved up to 12 months in advance online or by phone, a two-night minimum stay is required for Friday and Saturday arrivals, and Kentucky prohibits importing firewood from outside the state, with firewood available for purchase at park campgrounds. Book well ahead for Kentucky Derby weekend, Thunder Over Louisville, and summer holiday weekends, when metro-area sites sell out first.
What to expect
Campgrounds closest to Parkway Village are urban RV parks rather than wooded retreats. Expect gravel or paved pads, full hookups, and easy interstate access, with commercial neighbors and some road or rail noise. Louisville North Campground operates as a compact RV park on a gravel lot in Clarksville, Indiana, accommodates big rigs with full hookups, and maneuvering can require care due to tight spacing. Railroad tracks run directly behind the property, and freight trains pass throughout the night.
Full hookup RV sites are common at commercial campgrounds in the metro, while Kentucky state parks in the wider region typically offer electric and water sites with a central dump station. Cell service is reliable across the metro, groceries and fuel are close at hand, and rideshare into downtown Louisville is straightforward from most sites.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Parkway%20Village%2C%20KentuckyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Parkway Village, KY?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Kentucky. The Commonwealth does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use RVs under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every motorhome, campervan, travel trailer, and fifth wheel you'll find on RVezy. You do need to be at least 25 years old to book, and you'll verify your ID right inside the RVezy platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. That's it, you're ready to roll out of Parkway Village.
drive.ky.gov/driver-licensing/Pages/default.aspxWhat protection comes with my Parkway Village RV rental?
Every RV rental in Parkway Village booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-65 or the Bluegrass Parkway with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, and you can choose from multiple coverage tiers at checkout based on how much protection you want. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it is designed to remove the financial what-ifs that worry first-time renters. Pro tip: pick your coverage level when you book, not at pickup, so your host can finalize the trip without any back and forth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Louisville-area RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Parkway Village is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. That means you have breathing room if plans shift or a Derby ticket falls through. Refund outcomes depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel and the specific policy tied to your booking. You will see the full cancellation details on the RVezy site before you confirm, and the support team is available if you need help navigating a change.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Parkway Village is easy to find. Just toggle the 'Pet-Friendly' filter on RVezy and you'll see dozens of motorhomes and travel trailers whose hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you're on the road, your pup will love nearby spots like Jefferson Memorial Forest, the off-leash dog park at Cherokee Park (about 10 minutes north of Parkway Village), and the paved Louisville Loop trail. Louisville South KOA in Shepherdsville even has a 'Kamp K-9' dog park on-site. Message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size notes so check-in is smooth.
louisvilleky.gov/government/parks/parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway?
Yes, RV delivery in Parkway Village is one of the best ways to take the stress out of your trip. Many RVezy hosts will drive the motorhome straight to your campground or driveway, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just filter for delivery on the listing search and enter your destination. Popular delivery drops from Parkway Village include Louisville South KOA in Shepherdsville (about 15 miles south), Taylorsville Lake State Park (about 35 miles east), and campgrounds near Churchill Downs for Derby week. This is the move if it is your first time renting an RV.

nps.gov/maca/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Parkway Village, KY?
You have great choices for RV camping near Parkway Village. Top picks include Louisville South KOA Holiday in Shepherdsville (about 15 miles south, full hookups, pool, dog park), Grandma's RV Camping in Shepherdsville (full hookups, big-rig friendly), Taylorsville Lake State Park (about 35 miles east, electric and water sites on a 3,000-acre lake), and Charlestown State Park just across the Ohio River in Indiana. For state park stays, book through the official Kentucky State Parks reservation system up to a year in advance, especially for summer weekends and festival weeks.
parks.ky.gov/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Parkway Village?
Late April through October is the sweet spot for a Parkway Village RV trip, with May, September, and October being the standouts. Spring temperatures generally run in the 60s to mid-70s Fahrenheit, perfect for the Kentucky Derby Festival and Bourbon Trail tours. Summer can climb into the upper 80s and low 90s with humidity, so prioritize RVs with strong air conditioning. Fall delivers crisp days in the 55 to 75 degree range and brilliant foliage along the Ohio River Valley. Winter trips are possible too, many hosts list four-season rigs and off-season pricing is often lower from December through February. Local insider tip: book early for Derby week in early May and the Bourbon and Beyond festival in September.
weather.gov/lmk/I've never rented an RV before. How does pickup and orientation work?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, usually 30 to 60 minutes, covering how to start the generator, dump tanks, run the AC, deploy the awning, level the rig, and connect at the campground. They'll hand you a written cheat sheet, swap phone numbers, and stay reachable throughout your trip. You can also message the host through the platform before booking to ask anything from 'Is it easy to drive?' to 'Can you show me a video?' Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or campervan for your first Parkway Village RV trip, they drive more like a big van than a bus.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-rv-safetyWhat happens if I break down or have an issue on the road?
You are covered. Every motorhome rental in Parkway Village booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are off I-65, deep in Daniel Boone National Forest, or pulled over on the Watterson Expressway. Roadside support handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical breakdowns. Your host is also a great backup resource since they know their rig inside out. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway, and screenshot your booking confirmation in case of spotty cell service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Parkway Village RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Parkway Village across state lines is one of the best parts of renting here. Kentucky borders seven states, so popular routes head south to Nashville (about 175 miles) and the Smokies, north to Indianapolis (about 115 miles), or east toward the New River Gorge in West Virginia. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and your protection coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: build your route in advance and share it with your host so everyone is aligned.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel during my Louisville RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in any Parkway Village RV trip budget, but it's easy to plan for. Louisville-area gas prices have recently averaged in the $3.50 to $4.20 per gallon range, with diesel typically 30 to 50 cents higher. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 16 to 22 mpg for a campervan (Class B), and your tow vehicle's mpg minus 30 percent for travel trailers. For a 500-mile loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at warehouse clubs in Shepherdsville or Clarksville, IN where prices typically run 15 to 25 cents below the Louisville Metro average.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Parkway Village?
Book early and you will have your pick of the best sites. Kentucky State Parks like Taylorsville Lake and General Butler open reservations up to 12 months ahead through the official reservation system, and summer weekends fill up fast, especially around the July 4th holiday and the Bourbon and Beyond festival in September. Private parks like Louisville South KOA typically open booking 6 to 12 months out. For Kentucky Derby week in early May, reserve by January at the latest, since sites within 20 miles of Churchill Downs vanish quickly. Pro tip: midweek arrivals from Sunday to Wednesday are easier to snag and often cheaper.
parks.ky.gov/What are driving conditions like around Parkway Village and Louisville?
Driving an RV around Parkway Village is very manageable, even for first-timers. The neighborhood sits in southeast Louisville right off the Watterson Expressway (I-264), with easy access to I-65 and I-64. Avoid driving large rigs through downtown Louisville at rush hour (7-9 am, 4-6 pm) and steer clear of the older Belvedere parking decks and the Big Four Bridge area, where clearances drop below 12 feet. Watch the Sherman Minton Bridge into Indiana for lane closures. Pro tip: nervous about urban driving? Book a host who offers RV delivery to your campground instead, and you'll skip metro traffic entirely. Tornado season runs March through June, so check weather before departing.
transportation.ky.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Parkway Village?
Most campgrounds within 30 minutes of Parkway Village offer the full lineup: 30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer hookups, dump stations, hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and a camp store. Louisville South KOA features a pool, jumping pillow, and Kamp K9 dog park. Kentucky State Parks like Taylorsville Lake provide electric and water sites with a central dump station and bathhouses. Need to dump or fill water mid-trip? Many KOAs allow non-guest dumping for a small fee. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a sewer hose, and a 30 to 50 amp adapter since hookups vary site by site.
parks.ky.gov/parks/recreation/taylorsville-lakeWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Parkway Village?
Today's RVs are basically tiny homes on wheels. A typical motorhome rental in Parkway Village comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (sleeps 4-8), a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace, and house batteries. Most include a TV and many have onboard generators, Wi-Fi boosters, outdoor speakers, and awnings. Campervan rentals in Parkway Village are more compact but include a bed, kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Every passenger needs a seatbelt while driving, so confirm the seatbelt count in the listing matches your group size before booking.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-rv-safetyWhat add-ons and options should I expect when I rent an RV in Parkway Village, KY?
Hosts offering RV rental Kentucky packages typically have a menu of helpful add-ons: delivery and setup ($2-$4 per mile typical), generator hours ($3-$5/hr beyond included), linens and kitchen kits ($50-$100), camping chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, and pet fees ($25-$75 flat). Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Parkway Village, and many offer Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) pickup, only 5 miles away, as a paid add-on. Mileage packages can be prepaid at a discount. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a full setup if it's your first RV camping trip, it's worth every dollar to skip the learning curve on day one.
flylouisville.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your Parkway Village RV rental, RVezy charges the trip total to your credit or debit card through the platform, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately (the amount is set by the host and shown before you book) and released after your trip wraps up cleanly. To avoid deposit issues, do a walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, dump the tanks if required, and report any incidents right away through RVezy. Pro tip: keep all communication inside the platform so there is a clear record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trips to take from Parkway Village, KY?
An RV road trip from Parkway Village can go in almost any direction. Top picks: the Kentucky Bourbon Trail loop through Bardstown, Loretto, and Lawrenceburg (200 miles, hit Maker's Mark and Heaven Hill), Mammoth Cave National Park (90 miles south on I-65, home to the world's longest cave system), Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Resort Park (130 miles east, sandstone arches and elite hiking), Great Smoky Mountains National Park (280 miles southeast), and Nashville for music and BBQ (175 miles south). Local insider tip: combine bourbon and caves by overnighting at My Old Kentucky Home State Park in Bardstown, it's the perfect family RV trip Parkway Village launchpad.
