Campgrounds near Princeton, Kentucky
Princeton sits in Caldwell County in western Kentucky, positioned between Interstate 24 and the Western Kentucky Parkway. The town is a practical base for RV travelers heading to the Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake region, with Land Between the Lakes, a 170,000-acre peninsula between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, roughly a half-hour drive west.
Closest to town, Holiday Hills Resort and Murphys Outback RV Resort serve travelers who want quick highway access and full hookups. Farther west along the lakes, Eddy Creek Marina Resort and Eddy Vegas Campground offer waterfront and marina-adjacent sites near Eddyville and Lake Barkley.
Beyond the private parks, the area is anchored by Kentucky State Parks and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Barkley Lake, plus U.S. Forest Service sites within Land Between the Lakes. Barkley Lake alone offers nine Corps campgrounds with amenities ranging from developed sites with full facilities to primitive backcountry options, giving RV travelers a wide range of choices within an hour of Princeton.
Things to do near Princeton
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake support boating, fishing, swimming, and paddling, with launch ramps and marinas scattered along both shorelines. Eddy Creek Marina Resort is a common stop for boat rentals and slip access on the Barkley side.
Inland, the U.S. Forest Service manages Land Between the Lakes, a 170,000-acre tract offering wildlife viewing, an Elk and Bison Prairie, the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm, and the Golden Pond Planetarium and Observatory. Families often pair a morning at the prairie with an afternoon at the working farm or a planetarium show.
Back in town, nearby Cadiz has antique shops lining its downtown, and Princeton itself offers small-town dining and grocery resupply before heading back to camp.

Western Kentucky has a humid subtropical climate. Princeton has warm to hot summers and mild winters, with July the hottest month and January the coldest, and most precipitation falling from April through October as thunderstorms and showers. Expect afternoon storms during peak summer and plan awnings and outdoor gear accordingly.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable RV windows. Wildflowers and lake fishing pick up in April and May, while October brings cooler nights and fall color across Land Between the Lakes. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day are the busiest on the water.
Winter trips are possible but limited. Many state park and Corps campgrounds run a seasonal schedule; Lake Barkley State Resort Park's campground, for example, operates from spring through late October. Private RV parks near Princeton are more likely to remain open year-round, though water service can be interrupted during hard freezes.
How to book campgrounds near Princeton
Reservation systems vary by operator. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites on Barkley Lake and U.S. Forest Service sites in Land Between the Lakes are booked through Recreation.gov, where campground reservations typically open several months in advance and peak-season dates should be locked in as early as possible.
Kentucky State Parks, including Lake Barkley State Resort Park, use the state's ReserveAmerica portal. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be booked up to 12 months in advance. Weekend stays typically require a two-night minimum, and holidays often require longer minimums.
Private parks such as Holiday Hills Resort, Murphys Outback RV Resort, Eddy Creek Marina Resort, and Eddy Vegas Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect on arrival
Site quality varies widely between private RV parks and state or federal campgrounds. Private parks near Princeton tend to offer level, full-hookup pull-throughs suited to larger rigs. State and Corps sites can be more rustic, with paved pads that sometimes feature notable grades near picnic areas, so substantial leveling blocks help. Electrical and water hookups at some Kentucky State Park sites are shared and positioned centrally between pads, so long extension cords and a long potable-water hose are useful.
Tree cover is common around the lakes, which helps with summer heat but can limit rooftop solar and satellite reception.
One planning note on firewood: Kentucky State Parks prohibit bringing firewood in from outside the state to help slow the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer, and firewood is available for sale at the park campgrounds.

Pro tip: delivery often pays for itself once you factor in fuel for a big Class A.

parks.ky.gov/explore/lake-barkley-state-resort-park-7794When is the best time to take a Princeton RV trip?

Pro tip: late September is the local insider's secret, the lakes are warm, crowds are gone, and crappie fishing on Lake Barkley is at its best.
weather.gov/pah/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and Princeton is actually one of the easier places in Kentucky for first time renting an RV. The Western Kentucky Parkway and US-62 around town are wide, lightly trafficked, and free of tight urban turns. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering slide-outs, the propane system, leveling, dumping tanks, and the generator. Message your host any question before booking, and start with a smaller Class C or travel trailer if you feel nervous. Pro tip: take a 10-minute practice loop on the quiet roads near Caldwell County's farmland before merging onto I-24 toward the lakes. Confidence builds fast.
transportation.ky.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Princeton?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on KY-91, a dead battery at Lake Barkley State Resort Park, or a tow back from Land Between the Lakes is just one phone call away. Your host is also a text away for quick fixes like resetting the GFCI or relighting the water heater, and RVezy's support team is reachable before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave the pickup driveway, that two-minute step is the easiest peace-of-mind win.

For a 300-mile lake loop in a Class C, plan roughly $90 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Princeton or Eddyville, prices climb the closer you get to the interstate exits.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=KYHow far in advance should I book a campground near Princeton?
For peak weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, reserve campsites 4 to 6 months ahead, especially for waterfront sites at Lake Barkley State Resort Park and the U.S. Forest Service campgrounds inside Land Between the Lakes (Hillman Ferry, Piney, Energy Lake). LBL campgrounds open reservations 2 days to 6 months out at 1-800-525-7077 or through their official reservation portal, while Army Corps sites on Barkley Lake book through Recreation.gov. Private parks like Prizer Point KOA and Eddy Creek take direct online bookings. Pro tip: shoulder-season weeknights (late April or early October) are often walk-up available, perfect for spontaneous getaways.
recreation.gov/gateways/382What are driving conditions like around Princeton?
Driving an RV around Princeton is refreshingly easy compared to big-city traffic. The Western Kentucky Parkway, I-24, and US-62 are the main arteries, all wide and well-maintained, with gentle rolling hills, not mountain grades. Watch for two things: spring thunderstorms (March through May can bring strong winds, so check forecasts before crossing the long Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake), and the narrower scenic roads inside Land Between the Lakes, where the speed limit is 55 mph and deer cross frequently at dusk. Pro tip: if you're in a tall Class A, use the marked truck route through downtown Princeton, the KOA explicitly warns campers to skip the low-hanging older streets.

Inside Land Between the Lakes, Hillman Ferry and Piney offer electric hookups, dump stations, and potable fill stations, while smaller self-service sites like Cravens Bay and Taylor Bay are more primitive with vault toilets and shared dumpsters. Pro tip: pick up potable water and dump before leaving LBL, the Golden Pond Visitor Center area has the most convenient services for where to park an RV in Princeton-area lakes.

Your booking total covers the nightly rate, any add-ons you select, taxes, and the protection plan. The refundable security deposit is separate and is held (not charged) on your card during the trip. As long as the RV returns clean, undamaged, and within mileage and generator limits, the hold is released after drop-off. Pro tip: photograph the RV inside and out at both pickup and return, that quick step prevents almost every security deposit disagreement.

Bald eagle watching peaks December through February along Kentucky Lake. Pro tip: bring an extra propane tank, the heater works overtime when overnight temps hit the low 20s.
